Walmart recalls Ozark Trail water bottles due to lid laceration hazard

Walmart is recalling its Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles after reports indicated that the lids can eject forcefully, posing a risk of serious injury. The Walmart Ozark Trail water bottle recall affects around 850,000 units sold across the United States.

The bottles, recalled July 10, have the model number 83-662, although this number is not visible on the product itself. They  have a silver stainless-steel body and a black one-piece screwcap lid and have been available at Walmart stores nationwide and online since 2017. 

According to the Ozark Trail bottle recall notice, the hazard arises when the bottles are opened after storing food, carbonated beverages, or perishable liquids like juice or milk, which can cause the lid to eject unexpectedly.

 “The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” Walmart said, emphasizing their cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the manufacturer to address the issue.

Ozark Trail recall urges people to stop using bottles after serious injury reports

Walmart has received three reports of injuries related to the ejection of the bottle lids. Notably, two individuals suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye. These incidents underscore the severity of the hazard, prompting the Ozark Trail bottle recall action.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected bottles and contact Walmart for a full refund. The Walmart Ozark Trail water bottle recall notice highlights that the bottles can be returned to any Walmart store for compensation.

 “Consumers who have this product should discontinue use immediately and return it to the place of purchase or discard it,” the recall notice says.

The company has also removed the product from its stores and issued notifications to consumers to prevent further injuries.
