Walmart recall overview: 

  • Who: TreeHouse Foods issued a recall for more than 2,000 cases of Great Value-branded chicken broth sold at select Walmart store locations. 
  • Why: The Great Value recall was initiated over concerns a packaging failure could compromise the sterility of the chicken broth, resulting in spoilage. 
  • Where: The recalled Great Value chicken broth was sold at select Walmart locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas.

A recall has been issued for more than 2,000 cases of Great Value-brand chicken broth sold at Walmart over concerns a potential packaging failure could compromise its sterility, resulting in spoilage. 

The Walmart recall involves exactly 2,023 cases of Great Value chicken broth packaged in 48-ounce paper cartons with a “best if used by” date of March 25, 2026. 

The recalled Great Value chicken broth was distributed to one direct consignee in Alabama and Arkansas, according to recall information published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. 

Walmart said the recalled Great Value chicken broth was sold at select Walmart store locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas. 

Consumers advised to throw out recalled chicken broth, ask for refund

The retail giant advised consumers who own the recalled Great Value chicken broth to throw out the product and to ask for a full refund, according to the Associated Press. 

Walmart also reportedly said it is working with the supplier of the recalled Great Value chicken broth to investigate the Great Value recall. 

JM Smucker Co. initiated a separate recall involving Great Value in November 2024. The recall involved a Great Value-brand Cheese Danish product and Great Value Cinnamon Rolls product and was initiated over concerns of a potential plastic contamination
