Volkswagen Group of America agreed to a class action lawsuit settlement to resolve claims that certain Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles have defective front door wiring harnesses.
The Volkswagen Atlas class action settlement benefits current and former owners and lessees of certain 2019-2023 Volkswagen Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles with eligible Vehicle Identification Numbers. Consumers can look up their vehicle VIN on the settlement website to determine if they are covered under the settlement.
According to the class action lawsuit, certain Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport vehicles have defective front door wiring harnesses that can fail and cause electrical issues. The Volkswagen Atlas wiring harness allegedly fails due to a design defect that causes the part to rub against a metal edge.
Volkswagen Group of America is the North American headquarters and subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, a German automotive manufacturer that sells vehicles under several brands, including Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Bentley and others.
Volkswagen hasn’t admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay an undisclosed sum to resolve the defective wiring harness class action lawsuit.
Under the terms of the Volkswagen Atlas class action settlement, class members can receive reimbursement for past repairs related to the front door wiring harness. Class members who paid out of pocket for repairs performed before Oct. 10, 2024, are eligible for 100% reimbursement.
Class members who had repairs performed between Dec. 22, 2022, and Oct. 10, 2024, may be required to submit a signed declaration stating they presented their vehicle to a Volkswagen dealer for a recall repair but the dealer was unable to perform the repair due to unavailability of replacement parts.
Class members whose repairs were performed during their vehicle’s original new vehicle limited warranty period but not by an authorized Volkswagen dealer must submit records showing they first attempted to have the repair performed by an authorized dealer but the dealer declined or was otherwise unable to perform the repair. Alternatively, these class members may submit a signed declaration stating such records are not available after a good-faith effort to obtain them.
Additionally, effective Oct. 10, 2024, Volkswagen will extend its New Vehicle Limited Warranty for all settlement class vehicles to cover the cost of repair or replacement by an authorized Volkswagen dealer of a failed front door wiring harness for up to five years or 60,000 miles from the date that the recall repair was performed.
The deadline for exclusion and objection is Nov. 25, 2024.
The final approval hearing for the Volkswagen class action settlement is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2025.
To receive settlement benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form and supporting documentation by Dec. 24, 2024.
