  • Who: Viva Raw LLC is recalling two lots of its dog and cat foods.
  • Why: The recall is due to contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.
  • Where: The recall is active across the United States.

Viva Raw has initiated a voluntary recall of two lots of its pet foods due to potential contamination with Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes.

The recall affects products including Viva Ground Beef for Dogs, Viva Beef and Turkey for Puppies, Viva Ground Chicken for Dogs, Viva Chunked Chicken for Dogs, Viva Chicken for Cats and Viva Pure Chicken, distributed between July 2 and Aug. 21, 2025. These products were sold nationwide and in select retailers in states such as New York, Illinois, South Carolina, Florida, Kansas, California and Arizona.

The products are packaged as frozen 1 lb. bricks with the lot numbers 21495 and 21975 printed on the top of the packaging. The contamination was discovered during routine testing by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture.

“Salmonella and Listeria can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products,” the recall notice states.

Pet owners are advised to monitor their pets for symptoms, such as lethargy, diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Humans handling the contaminated products should also be vigilant for symptoms like nausea, vomiting and fever. Pregnant women, young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

Pet owners urged to dispose of recalled products safely

Viva Raw emphasizes that consumers should not use the recalled products and should dispose of them in a manner that prevents access by children, pets and wildlife.

“If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian,” the recall notice advises.

The company is offering refunds for the affected products and urges customers to contact them via email at [email protected] or by calling (919) 371-8882 for further assistance.

Viva Raw says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In 2024, Viva Raw recalled five products intended for dogs, cats and puppies due to potential listeria contamination.
