Ventura Foods is recalling more than 20,000 peanut butter items after blue plastic pieces were found in a filter during production.
The peanut butter recall affects a wide range of single-serve peanut butter items and peanut butter-and-jelly combo packs distributed by companies such as DYMA Brands Inc., US Foods, Sysco Corporation, Gordon Food Service and Independent Marketing Alliance.
The recall, classified as Class II by the FDA, indicates that the affected products may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, with a remote probability of serious health issues.
The recall was initiated last April, but the FDA only assigned a Class II classification on Feb. 12.
The products involved include creamy peanut butter in various package sizes, with lot numbers such as D077F01 and D086F03, among others. The affected items were distributed to 40 states, including California, Texas, New York and Florida, according to the FDA.
“Protecting consumers remains our top priority, and we will continue to act swiftly and transparently as the FDA review progresses,” a Ventura Foods spokesperson said.
Consumers urged not to consume contaminated products
The recall notice emphasizes the urgency of removing potentially contaminated products from the market. Ventura Foods has urged its customers, distributors, and retailers to review their inventories and halt the sale and distribution of the affected items.
The recall notice also advises consumers to discontinue use of the recalled products immediately and return them to the place of purchase or discard them.
Ventura Foods is actively working to address the issue by collaborating with the FDA and ensuring that all necessary measures are taken to prevent further distribution of the contaminated products. The company is committed to consumer safety and transparency throughout the peanut butter recall process.
Consumers seeking more information about the recall can visit the FDA’s website for a full list of affected items and updates on the recall status. The FDA will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
Ventura Foods says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
