Pradaxa bleeding emergencyPatients taking Pradaxa to prevent blood clot injuries did not have an antidote for uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa until 2015. This has invariably been linked to hundreds of deaths and casualties and thousands of lawsuits against Pradaxa’s manufacturer, Boehringer Ingelheim.

Pradaxa Anticoagulant Drug Facts

The German pharmaceutical company, Boehringer Ingelheim, manufactured and produced Pradaxa (dabigatran) as an anticoagulant medication. This was approved by the FDA in October 2010.

Pradaxa was approved for the prevention of strokes in patients who have atrial fibrillation, or a-fib, which is an abnormal heart rhythm.

Pradaxa, with its approval, allowed consumers to have an option as to which anticoagulant medication they can take. At the time and before Pradaxa’s approval, warfarin, another anticoagulant medication, had cornered the market. What made Pradaxa distinct from warfarin is that it did not require rigid blood monitoring.

However, severe adverse effects and complications have been reported to occur, including severe uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa. These adverse events have been linked to over 1,000 fatalities.

In October 2015, the FDA approved Pradaxa’s antidote medication, Praxbind, generically known as idarucizumab. Before Praxbind was available, patients who took Pradaxa and suffered from bleeding events had no antidote for the adverse side effects and uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa that it may cause.

Since August 2012, there were approximately 4,000 lawsuits filed by patients who had taken Pradaxa and suffered from adverse effects or uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa. These claims were consolidated into an MDL, or multidistrict litigation, centered on common allegations about the anticoagulant medication.

In May 2014, Boehringer Ingelheim had agreed to settle all 4,000 lawsuits that were brought against them in the MDL. The manufacturer agreed on a $650 million settlement.

Uncontrollable Bleeding from Pradaxa Lawsuit Eligibility and Compensation

If you or someone you know were not part of the Pradaxa settlement in 2014 and you were injured and suffered from uncontrollable bleeding from Pradaxa, you may be entitled to compensation.

Compensation from Pradaxa lawsuits may be able to cover any pain and suffering endured, medical bills, funeral expenses in the event of a loved one’s loss, and other financial losses and lost wages.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
