Tru Fru recall overview:

  • Who: Tru Fru LLC is recalling specific varieties of its freeze-dried products, manufactured by Georgia Nut Company.
  • Why: The Tru Fru recall is due to the potential presence of metal fragments in the products, which could cause serious injuries.
  • Where: The recall is effective across the United States.

Tru Fru has initiated a recall of its freeze-dried fruit snacks after reports indicated the potential presence of metal fragments in the products.

The recall, announced on Sept. 26, affects products distributed nationwide through various retailers, including Albertson’s, CVS and Target, among others.

The affected products include Tru Fru Freeze Dried Strawberries in Dark & White Chocolate and Tru Fru Freeze Dried Strawberries & Crème. These items are identified by specific universal product codes and manufacturing codes listed on the packaging.

The recall was prompted by a consumer report, but no injuries or illnesses have been reported thus far. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration warns that metal fragments in food can lead to severe injuries, such as lacerations or perforations of internal tissues.

“Hard or sharp foreign objects in food may cause traumatic injury, including laceration and perforation of tissues of the mouth, tongue, throat, stomach and intestine as well as damage to the teeth and gums,” the recall notice states.

Consumers advised to dispose of or return affected products immediately

Tru Fru, in collaboration with Georgia Nut Company, has taken swift action to address the potential safety hazard. The company is working with retailers to remove the affected products from store shelves and has provided a contact number and email for consumer inquiries.

Consumers who have this product should discontinue use immediately and return it to the place of purchase or discard it, the recall notice says. Consumers can check their products by matching the affected manufacturing codes.

For those seeking more information or reimbursement, Tru Fru has directed consumers to visit its official website or contact its support line at 1-888-293-7748. The company has assured that no other products or lots are affected by this recall.

Tru Fru states it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Tru Fru recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In July, YoCrunch recalled its yogurt products due to the potential presence of plastic pieces in the product toppers, which could pose a choking hazard.
