pressure cooker explosion explodeTristar Products Inc. is facing a new pressure cooker lawsuit from a Florida woman alleging her pressure cooker exploded. The pressure cooker lawsuit alleges the device unexpectedly exploded, causing serious injury.

Plaintiff Beth M. had filed the pressure cooker lawsuit after discovering Tristar may have known the product was defective but had concealed this information from the public. According to the pressure cooker lawsuit, Beth had purchased a pressure cooker from the company on April 15, 2016 after seeing an advertisement for the product on television.

However just months later on Oct. 30, 2016, Beth had allegedly sustained serious injuries when using the cooking device. Before the incident occurred, Beth says she reportedly used the device for its intended purpose and did not deviate from instructions. In addition, Beth says she followed all instructions on the day in question but still experienced problems. Even with Beth’s diligence, the pressure cooker suddenly exploded and spread hot food all over her.

Overview of Pressure Cooker Lawsuit

Pressure cookers and pressure ovens are popular cooking devices used for numerous culinary purposes, but they can cause serious injuries to users if they malfunction.

Pressure cookers prepare food by trapping steam inside a sealed compartment, and increasing pressure up to 15 lbs pound per square inch (psi). When the pressure increases, the cooking temperature increases to 250 ℉ and rapidly cooks the food inside. The high pressure and hot temperatures can create a dangerous combination for consumers, who may be at risk for burns.

According to injury reports, pressure cooker lids would suddenly fly off and hot liquid and food would spread all over consumers’ skin. These pressure cooker explosions are reportedly caused by the faulty valves of the device, which are supposed to latch and allow pressure to build in the device. Some users report that even though they depressurized the cooker according to instructions before opening it, it still spattered scalding hot food all over them when they opened it.

Each of the consumers allege they followed instructions, but still experienced serious burns and injuries from the pressure cooker devices. These explosions have also allegedly occurred despite the use of safety locks and other preventative measures in place that are supposed to prevent the lid from being opened, until the inside decreases in pressure.

This has caused boiling hot liquids or other contents to come in contact with patients, causing second and third degree burns. Beth is no different in this regard, after allegedly experiencing serious burns to her body and was forced to undergo medical treatment for these burns.

Beth states she never would have opted for the pressure cooker, if she had known the alleged defective nature of the device. Beth is filing this pressure cooker lawsuit, alleging multiple damages and failure to warn.

Other consumers who suffered injuries from Tristar pressure cookers or other manufacturers, may be able to file legal action and should consult a lawyer. A class action investigation has been launched after numerous consumers submitted complaints of pressure cooker explosions.

Beth’s Pressure Cooker Lawsuit is Case 9:17-cv-80938-DMM, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
