A man has filed a Tribenzor lawsuit against plaintiff Daiichi Sankyo, manufacturer of the blood pressure medication, alleging that it caused him severe personal injury.
Plaintiff Miguel R., a 62-year-old Connecticut resident states that he suffered injury to himself as well as economic loss, according to the Tribenzor lawsuit.
Miguel began taking Tribenzor around 2012 before he began sustaining injuries related to the medication. As a result of taking Tribenzor, Miguel claims he suffered from GERD, weight loss, abdominal pain, constipation and gastritis. These severe gastrointestinal issues led him to file the Tribenzor lawsuit.
The plaintiff has brought forth a number of claims and allegations against Daiichi Sankyo, including products liability for design defect and failure to warn, several counts of negligence, including negligent misrepresentation and negligent design, fraudulent concealment, fraud, constructive fraud, breaches of express and implied warranties and unjust enrichment.
In addition to seeking judgment against the Defendants in a jury trial, Miguel is seeking compensatory damages, punitive damages, interest, costs of suit and any additional relief that the Court deems equitable and just.
The Tribenzor Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-00247-RBK-JS and is part of the Benicar MDL In Re: Benicar (olmesartan) Products Liability Litigation, MDL 2606, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, Camden Vicinage.
Tribenzor Side Effects
Tribenzor is a medication comprised of three separate main ingredients: amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker used to widen blood vessels), hydrochlorothiazide (a diuretic) and olmesartan (a medication that prevents blood vessels from narrowing, known by the name brand Benicar).
Tribenzor is used to help lower the blood pressure in patients who are suffering from hypertension. Typically, it is given to those who have not responded to other anti-hypertensive treatments.
The Tribenzor lawsuit was included in the Benicar multidistrict litigation because the active drug ingredient in question is olmesartan (Benicar). Benicar, Benicar HCT and Tribenzor lawsuits are all included in the multidistrict litigation that alleges the olmesartan drugs caused severe gastrointestinal issues in the plaintiffs.
The severe side effects leading to personal injury in the plaintiffs revolve around gastrointestinal issues. These issues can be so severe that they disrupt the digestive process and can affect the body as a whole.
One of the most common complaints of olmesartan users, and one that Miguel noted in his Tribenzor lawsuit, is abdominal pain. Many patients present to their doctors with severe abdominal pain as well as diarrhea and general indigestion. Based on their symptoms, doctors often think the patients are suffering from celiac disease – a severe allergic response to gluten, the protein found in wheat, barley and rye.
However, testing for celiac disease is most often negative. Doctors typically go on to diagnose a drug-induced sprue-like enteropathy and related villous atrophy that also occur in celiac disease. These conditions cause digestive issues which can lead to malnutrition and malabsorption of nutrients. Diarrhea is also common and can get so severe that it causes electrolyte imbalance and malnutrition.
