Canned tuna recall over fatal botulism risk hits major grocery stores

Tri-Union Seafoods recalled select lots of canned tuna sold under the Genova, Van Camp’s, H-E-B and Trader Joe’s brands due to potential contamination with Clostridium botulinum, which can cause botulism, a serious illness that may lead to paralysis or fatal respiratory failure.

The recall affects multiple products, including Genova Solid White and Yellowfin Tuna, Van Camp’s Solid Light Tuna, Trader Joe’s Solid Light and Solid White Tuna and H-E-B Solid White Tuna, with “best if used by” dates between Dec. 12, 2027, and Jan. 27, 2028. The products were sold at H-E-B, Trader Joe’s, Costco, Harris Teeter, Publix, Kroger, Safeway, Walmart and independent retailers across several states, according to the recall notice.

Tri-Union Seafoods says it has not received reports of illnesses. Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled tuna, dispose of it or return it to the retailer for a full refund. They may also contact Tri-Union Seafoods at 833-374-0171 for a retrieval kit and coupon for a replacement product.

Recall initiated for Honda, Acura vehicles

Honda recalled 294,612 Acura MDX Type-S, Honda Pilot and Acura TLX Type-S vehicles due to a software error in the fuel injection electronic control unit that can cause an engine stall or loss of power, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

The recall applies to model year 2022–2025 Acura MDX Type-S, 2023–2025 Honda Pilot and 2021–2025 Acura TLX Type-S vehicles, according to a notice published by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Jan. 23. The issue stems from improper settings in the air flow rate and fuel injection volume correction control logic.

Honda says it has received 674 warranty claims but no reports of crashes or injuries. Owners will be contacted by mail around March 15 and should take their vehicle to an authorized Honda or Acura dealer for a free software update.

Ford announces recall for Bronco Sports, Mavericks due to potential battery failure

Ford recalled 270,000 model year 2021–2023 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022–2023 Ford Maverick vehicles due to concerns that their 12-volt battery could degrade and fail, leading to a loss of drive power or electrical accessories, including hazard lights. A loss of motive power increases the risk of a crash, according to the recall notice.

The affected vehicles were previously repaired under an April 2024 recall but require an additional remedy. Ford dealers will inspect and replace the 12-volt battery as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by Feb. 3, 2025. Consumers with questions can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332.

Lay’s potato chip recall set at highest risk level

Frito-Lay recalled a limited number of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips due to undeclared milk ingredients, which could pose a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction for individuals with a milk allergy.

The recall affects 13 oz. bags with a Universal Product Code of 28400 31041, a “Guaranteed Fresh” date of Feb. 11, 2025, and manufacturing codes 6462307xx or 6463307xx.

The recalled chips were distributed to retail stores and e-commerce distributors in Oregon and Washington, according to the recall notice. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration upgraded the recall to a Class I designation, its highest risk level, on Jan. 27.

NeilMed announces recall for popular nasal spray

NeilMed recalled 89,312 units of NasoGel Spray for Dry Noses due to a microbial failure that could pose potential health risks. The recall applies to specific lot numbers of the saline-based gel formula, which is used to hydrate and lubricate dry nasal passages. Routine testing revealed the issue after customers reported an “unpleasant odor,” according to the recall notice.

The affected products were distributed in multiple U.S. states and internationally. Customers should immediately stop using the recalled nasal spray, quarantine affected products and destroy them. NeilMed will provide a refund or replacement at no cost. Have you purchased any of the products listed in our top recalls recently? Let us know in the comments.
