testosterone-heart-attackA man filed a testosterone product lawsuit after low testosterone treatment AndroGel allegedly caused him to have three heart attacks.

This testosterone product lawsuit is one of countless lawsuits that have been filed against manufacturers of AndroGel and other products after their users experienced a heart attack, blood clot, or other severe testosterone side effect.

After plaintiff Jones S. filed his lawsuit it was joined with a testosterone MDL (multidistrict litigation). MDLs are commonly used to unify cases unify cases that were filed by plaintiffs in similar cases against the same defendants.

Jones began to use AndroGel in May 2012 and continued the low testosterone treatment until March 2014. His first heart attack that was allegedly caused by the testosterone product was in May 2013, a year after first use. He continued to experience two other heart attacks until shortly after he stopped using the product.

Low Testosterone Treatment

It is estimated that over 5 million prescriptions are written for testosterone products each year. Men who experienced the following symptoms of low testosterone levels may have been given AndroGel or another product:

  • Low sex drive
  • Difficulty achieving erection
  • Low semen volume
  • Hair loss
  • Fatigue and lack of energy
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Increase in body fat
  • Decrease in bone mass
  • Mood changes

These symptoms also occur naturally with age. It has been argued that testosterone products have been over-prescribed to patients who truly do not need them. Instead, men are putting themselves, unknowingly, at risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Researchers have suggested that men who use testosterone products are 30 percent more likely to experience a heart attack, stroke, or even death.

Manufacturers have been accused of marketing their products to a population that truly does not need testosterone supplements. Despite the increase in testosterone product use over the past few years, the low testosterone treatments may only be effective for those with severely low testosterone levels.

Instead of limiting testosterone prescriptions or being clear with its effectiveness and potentially deadly side effects, drug manufacturers have made millions of dollars in profits. As a result, many have chosen to file testosterone product lawsuits against the manufactures for failing to warn against heart attack and other side effects.

Testosterone gels, creams, patches, injections, and implants are all involved in the ongoing investigations.

Allegations in this lawsuit include the following:

  • Design defect
  • Failure to warn
  • Negligence
  • Negligent misrepresentation
  • Breach of implied warranty of merchantability
  • Fraud
  • Unjust Enrichment
