T-Mobile customers who were impacted by a 2021 data breach are expected to begin receiving settlement payments in April.

The settlement ended claims T-Mobile failed to protect consumers’ personal information in a data breach that affected more than 76 million people by exposing names, addresses, Social Security numbers and driver’s license information.

T-Mobile agreed to pay $350 million in 2022 to resolve the claims and while a federal judge approved the settlement in June 2023, objectors appealed the decision, delaying the settlement payments.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit issued an opinion affirming the district court’s approval of the T-Mobile data breach settlement on July 29, 2024, but reversed a lower court’s opinion regarding attorney fees, resulting in further proceedings.

With all court proceedings now complete, the distribution of settlement payments is expected to begin in April 2025.
