Stryker Corporation is facing a new Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit from a Pennsylvania man alleging major hip implant complications. The Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit claims the man eventually had to undergo revision surgery in order resolve the injuries allegedly caused by the metal on metal hip implant.
Plaintiff Robert A. filed the Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit after he began experiencing symptoms of metal hip implant failure. Robert allegedly experienced severe pain and discomfort soon after having the Stryker Accolade implanted. Diagnostic images revealed “gross failure” of the all metal hip implant.
Allegedly, due to complications related to device failure, Robert was forced to undergo revision surgery to help resolve the hip implant issues. According to the Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit, there were signs of wear and permanent tissue and muscle damage around the implant area.
The damages reported in the Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit included signs of metallosis, or blood metal poisoning, due to the corrosion and fretting found on the device.
It is important to note that Stryker Corporation previously issued a recall for its Rejuvenate and ABG II metal hip implants in 2012 due to similar injuries reported in the Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit.
The company recalled the product after patients reported incidents of metallosis, which led to serious pain, joint infections and revision surgeries. Stryker issued another recall of its metal hip implants containing LFIT V40 cobalt-chromium femoral heads for similar reasons.
Robert’s metal hip implant was also affected by this recall, as the Accolade hip implant contains a LFIT V40 femoral head. He filed the Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit soon after becoming aware of the recall.
Overview of Metal Hip Implant Complications
Metal-on-metal hip implants do not have any non-metal barrier between the metal components. When the ball and socket joints of metal-on-metal hip implants interact, metal ions are shed into the blood stream and can lead to a wide variety of problems.
Among the potential complications patients may experience are higher risks of debilitating pain, limited mobility and ultimately device failure. Other metal hip implant complications reported by patients include fretting, corrosion, tissue death, infection and the formation of pseudotumors.
Even though these complications can be devastating to patients, Stryker and other manufacturers allegedly failed to adequately warn the public against these possibilities. Robert states that he never would have used the Stryker Accolade hip implant if he had been aware of the potential hip implant complications.
Robert is filing this Stryker Accolade hip lawsuit seeking multiple damages for negligence and failure to warn.
This Stryker Accolade Hip Lawsuit is Case No. 5:17-cv-01056-JFL in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
