The side effects of Invokana are detailed in a new lawsuit, including the dangers associated with above the knee amputation. Above the knee amputation may be a serious risk or side effect experienced by patients who allege that they were not warned about these possible problems.
A growing number of patients have filed lawsuits regarding the side effects of Invokana, including above the knee amputation after they have already suffered. The plaintiff in this lawsuit alleges that Janssen Pharmaceuticals and Johnson & Johnson are responsible for failing to warn the medical community and members of the public about the side effects of Invokana, allowing those patients to suffer devastating side effects after taking a medication they expected to help them.
The plaintiff in the side effects of Invokana lawsuit says that he sustained physical pain and suffering, as well as hospital, medical and surgical expenses directly due to using Invokana.
Invokana Amputation Risk
Invokana was initially approved in March 2013 by the Food and Drug Administration for those patients who had type-2 diabetes. This was the first drug in its class to obtain FDA approval.
The plaintiff in the side effects of Invokana lawsuit says that the defendants heavily marketed this drug and made it appear as though it was safe for use by patients. The manufacturers are accused of aggressively marketing Invokana to doctors as well as directly to patients for off-label purposes, which can be dangerous. The Invokana lawsuit also says that this medication is one of top selling drugs for the defendants.
The lawsuit, however, claims that individuals on Invokana are at a higher risk of suffering injuries that cannot heal properly; meaning that the patients face a bigger chance of sustaining infections that their body is unable to fight due to the side effects of Invokana.
After individuals develop an infection in lower extremities, such as their feet, these infections can far too easily spread to the bones, leading to a condition referred to as osteomyelitis. Those infections may also become gangrene.
The only safe medical treatment for patients who have developed gangrene infections is amputation.
Other Invokana Side Effects
Since Invokana prevents patients from using the body’s primary source of fuel, glucose, the bodies of patients may turn to fat as an alternative source of energy. This can, unfortunately, lead to the development of ketoacidosis.
Anyone who has experienced the negative side effects of Invokana and believes that it is the responsibility of the drug manufacturers to warn about the risks and to respond to them appropriately may be interested in filing a lawsuit.
More Invokana patients have contemplated their legal options and begun to file lawsuits with the support of attorneys after suffering from this situation. An above the knee or a lower leg extremity amputation can be extremely overwhelming and can present many different challenges to a patient who suffers.
The Side Effects of Invokana Lawsuit is Case No. 3:18-CV-10200-BRM-LHG filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.
In general, Invokana and Invokamet lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
