There are a variety of side effects reportedly linked to Lash Boost serum, manufactured by Rodan and Fields. Consumers in California or Washington who purchased Lash Boost within the past four years may be eligible to participate in a class action lawsuit investigation.
The Lash Boost serum’s manufacturers Rodan and Fields are facing claims that their product allegedly possesses misleading representations, including that the product is not linked to any adverse side effects and that it does not contain drug ingredients. Allegations claim the product is deceptively sold and advertised.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a chemical ingredient known as isopropyl cloprostenate may be the cause of several adverse effects. These side effects include:
- Eye irritation
- Eye redness
- Low intraocular pressure
- Macular edema
- Eye irritation
- Dry eye
- Eye inflammation
- Iris color change
- Other side effects
Rodan and Fields has not acknowledged the reported side effects. Additionally, the company did not seek FDA approval for the use of isopropyl cloprostenate in Lash Boost serum.
Lash Boost Serum
Long and full eyelashes have long gone from the Red Carpet to everyday life. Today, long and full eyelashes are high in value and a huge part of today’s beauty industry. Rodan and Fields’ Lash Boost serum has been marketed as a way to accentuate natural lashes. However, an ingredient in the product is linked to severe adverse side effects.
Lash Boost serum can be bought over-the-counter and claims to grow and extend the length of eye lashes. The company says the products works in just four weeks. According to Rodan and Fields’ website, the Lash Boost serum is a “unique proprietary formula that improves the appearance of lash volume and length of lashes that are 100% real, 100% yours.” The market price for the product is about $150.
In addition to isopropyl cloprostenate, said by the FDA to be unsafe for use except under the care provided by a licensed practitioner, the product contains ingredients including biotin, almond extract, pumpkin seed extract, keratin, and water.
Isopropyl Cloprostenate
Although isopropyl cloprostenate, said to have the potential to alter a body’s structure and function, has been approved for use in prescription medications, it has not been approved as a cosmetic additive. It is included in a class of compounds known as prostaglandin analogs used to treat glaucoma, a group of eye conditions that can cause blindness.
Some associated side effects linked to topical isopropyl cloprostenate use includes: iris color change, lower intraocular pressure, macular edema, ocular inflammation, ocular irritation, and others.
There have also been a number of manufacturers who have received warning letters from the FDA concerning isopropyl cloprostenate in their products. Some of the products have included NeuLash, NeuveauBrow, and RapidLash.
