Serious FDA Concerns Over Sex Enhancement Supplements Mount

By John Curran

male enhancement supplementThe federal Food and Drug Administration requires extensive analysis and data before it can issue warnings about a dangerous dietary supplement, and cannot even do so until the product is on the market. That means many men and women may not even realize there are dozens of sexual enhancement supplements for sale that are cause for concern.

Just because a sexual enhancement supplement is marketed as “all-natural” does not mean it is safe. Recent FDA warnings about natural sexual enhancement pills say the agency found additional ingredients in the pills that did not show up on the ingredient list or on the product packaging. Product liability lawyers are investigating claims that these hidden ingredients may have led to adverse side effects for some buyers.

Even for people that do not suffer from any negative reactions to sexual enhancement products, there is some question about whether or not these supplements offer any real benefits. Some studies on sexual enhancement pill side effects only have a small number of participants or do not account for the placebo effect.

In the case of one of the most popular sexual enhancement supplement manufacturers, Biotab Nutraceuticals, even the use of suggestive terminology rather than verifiable facts has subjected them to legal scrutiny in both civil and criminal actions.

The Cautionary Tale of ExtenZe and Enzyte Natural Sex Supplements

Biotab Nutraceuticals reached a $6 million class action lawsuit settlement in 2010 over allegedly false marketing claims related to its male enhancement product ExtenZe.

Enzyte was a similar male enhancement supplement that garnered legal problems for manufacturer Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals, which was hit with a 112-count indictment over claims the company defrauded consumers. In spite of both cases, many sexual aid manufacturers continue to make fraudulent marketing claims, especially about supposed all-natural male enhancement supplements.

Investigations into All-Natural Sex Enhancement Supplements Continue

As a result of the recent publication of the FDA’s Tainted Sexual Enhancement Products List, product liability lawyers are investigating these claims and whether or not the companies engaged in false advertising.

If you took one of these sexual enhancement products and suffered from adverse side effects or found no benefit, you may be able to pursue a legal remedy.
