A growing subset of the beauty industry is that of eyelash boosting, eyelash enhancement and eyelash extensions. A popular newer beauty brand, Rodan and Fields, boasts that their product, Rodan and Fields Lash Boost, is safe and effective.
However, there have been reports of unexpected side effects. As a result, critics have pointed to the fact that Rodan and Fields Lash Boost contains an ingredient that the FDA has not approved for over-the-counter use in cosmetics.
Rodan and Fields Lash Boost
Rodan and Fields Lash Boost is a product that customers buy because of promises of darker, fuller and longer eyelashes. Rodan and Fields itself claims that its Rodan and Fields Lash Boost product “enhances the natural appearance of your lashes in just 4 weeks.” Rodan and Fields claims that their product will give a customer “fuller-looking, longer-looking, and darker-looking” lashes so that the customer can “feel beautiful anytime, anywhere.”
Rodan and Fields claims that their Rodan and Fields Lash Boost product is a unique and proprietary serum that is safe for use as an over-the-counter, non-medicated cosmetic product.
In an FAQ page that Rodan and Fields has published, Rodan and Fields claims that their Rodan and Fields Lash Boost does not contain any drugs, but that it is a cosmetic product. “It contains only cosmetic ingredients to address the appearance of lashes and is not intended to be a medical treatment for damaged lashes,” it reads.
Additionally, the FAQ page reads, “Lash Boost is a cosmetic product and does not contain any medical or active ingredients.” Its ingredients, Rodan and Fields claims, will “moisturize, nourish and protect the appearance of lashes.”
However, even though Rodan and Fields claims that their Rodan and Fields Lash Boost product does not contain any “medical” ingredients, it does contain a substance called isopropyl cloprostenate.
Isopropyl cloprostenate is a synthetic version of a compound known as a prostaglandin analog. Prostaglandin analogs are often found in drugs that treat glaucoma patients and have been associated with surprising side effects such as eye color change, macular edema, hyperemia, ocular inflammation, ocular irritation, lower intraocular pressure, dry eye and other conditions.
Although prostaglandin analogs have been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for use in certain drugs, isopropyl cloprostenate has not been approved for use in cosmetics.
In the past, other companies that have used isopropyl cloprostenate in their products have received warning letters from the FDA that their products are in violation of the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act.
Isopropyl cloprostenate is a drug that should only be used under the guidance of a medical professional, not a cosmetics company, critics say.
Rodan and Fields is a MLM, or Multi-Level Marketing company. This means that these highly priced products are sold directly to customers by consultants who then recruit others to sell “underneath” them. It was established in 2002 by the two doctors who developed the Proactiv Solution acne remedy.
Many are worried that Rodan and Fields Lash Boost can cause dry eye, change in iris color or other more serious problems. Many are also worried that Rodan and Fields Lash Boost could be labeled and marketed in violation of FDA regulations. If so, those who have purchased this product may be eligible to file a Rodan and Fields Lash Boost lawsuit.

I also Purchased the lash boost and I am Experiencing negative side effects including dry eyes and the eye doctor said he saw the beginning signs of cataracts which surprised him due to my age and not having any issues before. Is this law suit only for those states or can I join -I live in Kansas. Also I tried to just get a refund first but they refused. Said I was A few days past the 60 day return date.
Crazy… I have been searching to find out if anyone else has had cataract issues prematurely after using this product. I am 44 and just had cataract surgery for a rare cataract. I continue to have problems post surgery. I began using Lash Boost last June and by August I had vision issues that progressed very quickly.
I have just been diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes after using lash boost for about a year. I am looking for others who may have had this same problem.
I’ve also developed a cataract issue. I stopped using it after I noticed an issue with my vision. My sight is changing every 60 days, and I will definitely need cataract surgery in the near future. My doctor is concerned about the rapid rate this is progressing. If you are using Lash Boost…STOP!! I live in Florida.
I was regularly buying this type of eyelash mascara to get Fuller darker lashes I am glad that I saw this because now I experience horrible dry eye and half of them don’t last they’re full of one month because I get such bad dry eye so please add me
