Zimmer Biomet reverse shoulder replacement recallBoth consumers and the medical community are becoming worried about reports of Actemra side effects, which include Actemra pancreatitis.

The popular rheumatoid arthritis medication has been hit with thousands of reports linking it with a few serious complications, including Actemra pancreatitis. Actemra is also facing a growing number of reports of fatalities.

If you or someone you love has suffered from Actemra pancreatitis or other side effects of the drug, you may be able to file an Actemra lawsuit. Family members can also file wrongful death lawsuits on behalf of loved ones who have died after using Actemra. While filing a lawsuit can never take away the pain and suffering of drug side effects or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.

Background of the Rheumatoid Arthritis Drug Actemra

Actemra (which is also known by its generic name, tocilzumab) is a popular medication manufactured by the pharmaceutical company Roche and used to treat rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disorder that can lead to joint pain and swelling, as well as damage to the skin, eyes, lungs, and heart.

Actemra is a relatively recent option, approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just in 2010. While rheumatoid arthritis drugs have traditionally carried serious risks of side effects like heart attacks, heart failure, and lung problems, Actemra has been marketed as lacking these kinds of dangerous side effects. Since its release onto the market, Actemra has gained immediate popularity. In just the seven years since its release, over 760,000 patients have already begun taking Actemra for arthritis treatment.

Unfortunately, despite its quickly rising popularity and its supposed lack of serious side effects, Actemra has actually been linked with some major problems, including Actemra pancreatitis.

Actemra Pancreatitis and Other Side Effects

The FDA has received thousands of reports of Actemra side effects. Actemra pancreatitis has allegedly been found among patients taking the medication.

Increased risk factors are those who are female, over 60, high blood pressure, and/or simultaneously taking the drug Methotrexate. Actemra pancreatitis accounts for the majority of Actemra side effects reports. Actemra pancreatitis is a significant side effect, and involves inflammation in the pancreas, which can cause abdominal pain, fever, vomiting, nausea, tenderness, and more.

According to a recent STAT report, patients taking Actemra actually face a greater risk of heart attacks, heart failure, and lung problems than patients taking other rheumatoid arthritis drugs, despite the manufacturer’s claims.

While many of the FDA reports include serious side effects that are common in other rheumatoid arthritis drugs, and so aren’t totally unexpected. But since Actemra has been marketed as lacking these risks, and patients are not warned about these side effects on the label or informational pamphlets, they may be lulled into a false sense of security, believing themselves to be safer using Actemra than other drugs—even if they are actually at a similar or greater risk.

Filing a Lawsuit Over Actemra Pancreatitis

If you have suffered from serious side effects such as Actemra pancreatitis after using the rheumatoid arthritis medication, you may have a legal claim. If someone you love has died after using Actemra, you may be able to file a lawsuit over deaths from Actemra.

In general, Actemra lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
