There are many kitchens across America that have pressure cookers, and many families utilize this type of cooking in order to make quick meals for their families.

How Do Pressure Cookers Work?

Pressure cookers work by trapping heat and steam inside a pot that is sealed. By doing this, meals can be prepared much quicker than by other means. This is a benefit to families who have busy schedules.

Liquid is heated inside the pot of the pressure cooker and steam is created. This steam creates higher cooking temperatures than would be possible with a different method of cooking.

The steam cooks the meal ingredients much faster than other cooking methods. For example, a meal that might take between four and six hours in a crockpot might take only one hour in a pressure cooker.

There are three different components that make up a pressure cooker. These include the housing unit, the inner pot and the lid. When a person cooks a meal inside a pressure cooker, the meal ingredients are placed inside the inner pot. The lid is closed and a lock is engaged. This lock ensures that hot liquid or steam does not escape the pressure cooker.

The housing unit contains the heating element (the means by which the appliance gains heat), a control box and temperature sensors.

When the lock is engaged and working correctly, a seal is formed with the inner pot. If it is not working correctly, hot liquid may escape from the pressure cooker.

Sometimes the use of one of these appliances has resulted in a pressure cooker explosion, severely injuring the individuals operating the cooker.

Plaintiffs who have filed a pressure cooker explosion lawsuit have claimed that the lids of certain pressure cookers are not fitted correctly or the safety mechanisms do not work as they are intended.

Not only will an ill-fitting lid cause a pressure cooker explosion, but a faulty safety lock may also cause a catastrophe. Additionally, some individuals claim that they have been the victim of a pressure cooker explosion even after the pot has been depressurized.

Those who have been injured by a pressure cooker explosion have filed lawsuits against the makers of their appliances. Some of these manufacturers include Aldi, Crofton, Cuisinart, Maxi-Matic, Tristar, and Wolfgang Puck. Plaintiffs have cited defective parts, malfunctions and pressure cooker explosions that have resulted in second-and third-degree burns.

One woman in particular suffered third-degree burns as she cooked a stew for her husband. She claims that she noticed a strange humming noise coming from her Tristar pressure cooker, so she pressed the cancel button.

Her pressure cooker explosion lawsuit claims that when she did this, the pressure cooker exploded without warning. The top of the appliance flew off and she came into contact with scalding hot liquid all over her torso.

If you or someone you love has experienced a pressure cooker explosion, you might be entitled to legal compensation.
