Pressure cookers seem like fairly harmless devices. But a growing number of pressure cooker owners are reporting serious injuries caused by malfunctioning products.
Consumers have reported pressure cooker dangers including defective parts, malfunctions, and even pressure cooker explosions. According to these complaints, power pressure cooker problems have caused explosions that can spew boiling food and liquid onto anyone standing nearby. Injured consumers have reported second- and third-degree burns as a result.
Power Pressure Cooker Problems
According to customer complaints, defects in a power pressure cooker can lead to explosions—which can cause boiling hot food and liquid to splatter onto victims, causing serious or even disfiguring burns.
Consumers have reported that the lid of their pressure cooker suddenly blew off, projecting boiling hot food and liquid onto their skin. While these devices are highly pressurized, as indicated by the name itself, some owners have reported that their cookers exploded even after the depressurized the device according to instructions.
Owners have also reported suffering from steam-related burns after the supposedly airtight seals of the device were broken prematurely, which allowed extremely hot steam to escape unexpectedly.
Pressure cooker dangers have been reported with Cuisinart devices as well as Maxi-Matic’s Elite Bistro line of cookers. Besides Cuisinart and Elite Bistro pressure cookers, other pressure cooker manufacturers that may involve similar pressure cooker dangers include Aldi, Crofton, Tristar, and Wolfgang Puck, among others.
Even children are reportedly at risk of suffering injuries due to defective pressure cookers. In one particularly severe incident, a toddler was hit with boiling food and liquid as it inexplicably shot to the ceiling—“like a geyser,” his mother said—and then rained down on both her and the child.
The child was transported by air to a burn center. Now, his physical wounds have healed, but now suffer from nightmares that were never an issue before.
