anticoagulant blood thinner Pradaxa Eliquis XareltoMore and more Pradaxa patients are coming forward with allegations of Pradaxa irreversible bleeding after using the popular blood thinner.

According to Pradaxa lawsuits, the drug’s manufacturer, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, failed to give adequate warning about the possibly severe side effects associated with the widely used drug, which reportedly include Pradaxa irreversible bleeding.

If you or someone you love has suffered from Pradaxa irreversible bleeding or another side effect associated with the drug, you may be able to file a Pradaxa lawsuit against the drug’s manufacturer. So far, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals has been hit with thousands of lawsuits over Pradaxa irreversible bleeding and other injuries, claiming that the company failed to adequately warn patients and the medical community as a whole about these serious risks.

Plaintiffs allege that the manufacturer either knew or should have known about these adverse effects, including Pradaxa irreversible bleeding, and had a responsibility to warn consumers to prevent potential injuries.

Background of Pradaxa Medication

Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals manufactures the popular anticoagulant medication Pradaxa, which is also known by its generic name, dabigatran. The medication is a fairly recent addition to the market: it was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) back in 2010.

Pradaxa is one of a group of several new blood thinners brought onto the market in the last few years which were meant to begin replacing warfarin, which has been the go-to anticoagulant for decades. Warfarin is also sold under the brand name Coumadin.

After barely two years of availability, Pradaxa had already garnered around 3.7 million patients in the U.S., some of whom were new, and some of whom were switching from alternatives like warfarin. Since it has become so popular in just the few years it has been on the market, there may be millions at risk for the potentially severe side effects of this drug, including Pradaxa irreversible bleeding complications.

Pradaxa Side Effects

Any medication is expected to come with certain mild side effects. Indeed, anticoagulants are expected to sometimes cause excessive bruising and bleeding, because the patient’s body is unable to form blood clots. Pradaxa is no exception.

Given that this is a well-known problem, and one with potentially devastating consequences, some anticoagulants have an antidote to reverse the effects in case of a major bleeding problem. However, for years, Pradaxa had no such antidote available to counteract a serious bleeding problem. If a patient suffered from a Pradaxa bleeding injury, the excessive bleeding could become much more serious because of this.

Pradaxa irreversible bleeding can, if left unchecked, morph into something far more serious, such as brain hemorrhaging or fatality. Sadly, more than 500 of the 3,781 reported Pradaxa adverse events in 2011 ended in fatalities.

Pradaxa’s irreversible bleeding problems have reportedly led to the following complications:

  • Internal bleeding
  • Kidney bleeding
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Stroke
  • Brain hemorrhage
  • Death

Filing a Lawsuit over Pradaxa’s Irreversible Bleeding Injury

If you or someone you know has taken Pradaxa and has subsequently experienced a Pradaxa’s irreversible bleeding injury, you may have cause for filing a Pradaxa lawsuit. Filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by Pradaxa’s bleeding injury, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden incurred by medical expenses and lost wages.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
