chemotherapyA Georgia woman is the latest of many to file a Taxotere lawsuit due to suffering from permanent hair loss after chemo. The lawsuit targets the drug’s manufacturer, Sanofi Aventis, alleging that the drug maker failed to give adequate warning about the risk of permanent hair loss after chemo with its drug.

The plaintiff, Makisha S., is a cancer patient who underwent treatment using the popular chemotherapy drug Taxotere. Makisha began her Taxotere treatment in May 2011 and continued for several weeks until August 2011.

Hair loss is the most visible and certainly the most well-known side effect of chemotherapy treatment. Cancer patients usually go in to chemotherapy treatment expecting that they will likely lose their hair, a condition known as alopecia, but they also expect that this hair loss will be temporary.

The expectation is that after chemotherapy treatment is over, patients will be able to grow their hair back. However, Makisha alleges that her treatment with Taxotere actually led to permanent hair loss after chemo was over. She was unable to grow her hair back.

More and more cancer patients like Makisha are coming forward with allegations of permanent hair loss after chemo with Taxotere. Others still have difficulty growing their hair back, and it grows instead in clumps and patches.

Makisha decided to fight back, filing a Taxotere lawsuit against Sanofi over her permanent hair loss after chemo. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including failure to warn, negligence, fraud and deceit, and fraudulent concealment, among others.

Makisha filed the lawsuit on Dec. 7, 2017, more than six years after her treatment with Taxotere was over — and still suffering from permanent hair loss after chemo.

Basics of Taxotere

Taxotere (also known by its generic name, docetaxel) is a popular chemotherapy drug manufactured by Sanofi Aventis. Taxotere has been around for a while now, and has become widely used. It was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) back in 1996 and remains popular today.

Despite its popularity, Taxotere has been linked with permanent hair loss after chemo.

Permanent Hair Loss After Chemo

Hair loss, which is also known as alopecia, is a common symptom associated with chemotherapy treatment. The majority of cancer patients go into chemotherapy treatment aware that they run a risk of losing their hair from the treatment, as the drugs kill cell growth.

Patients generally expect however, after their chemotherapy treatment is over, that their hair will eventually grow back. Unfortunately, a growing number of cancer patients like Makisha are finding that this may not be the case, and have been left with permanent hair loss after chemo.

If you or someone you love has suffered from permanent hair loss after chemo with Taxotere or another docetaxel medication, you may be able to gain some kind of financial compensation by joining a Taxotere lawsuit.

Filing a Taxotere hair loss lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering a cancer patient endures, or take away the effects of permanent hair loss after chemo, but it can help compensate for the financial expenses incurred by cancer treatment bills or even lost wages.

The Permanent Hair Loss After Chemo Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-15314, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
