Two consumers have filed a new class action lawsuit against John Paul Mitchell Systems, accusing the company of deceptively labeling its hair care products as being “Made in the USA.”
Plaintiffs Sam Lauer and Regina Brookshier filed the class action complaint in Illinois federal court on March 7, alleging certain of the company’s hair care products contain foreign ingredients.
Laser and Brookshier claim they were misled into purchasing the products, believing they were supporting American jobs and industries.
The Paul Mitchell class action lawsuit alleges that the company violated various consumer protection laws, including the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act, among others.
Paul Mitchell falsely used ‘Made in the USA’ claim, class action alleges
The plaintiffs allege that Paul Mitchell used an unqualified “Made in the USA” claim on its products, which misled consumers into believing that the products were made entirely in the United States.
The plaintiffs argue that they would not have purchased the products or would have paid less for them if they had known the truth about their origin.
Plaintiffs are looking to represent anyone in Illinois or California who purchased Paul Mitchell products labeled “Made in the USA” that were made with or contained ingredients or components not grown or manufactured in the U.S. within four years prior to the filing of this Complaint.
The plaintiffs are suing for breach of express warranty, unjust enrichment, negligent misrepresentation, intentional misrepresentation and violations of consumer laws. They seek certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
Last year, a judge dismissed another class action against Paul Mitchell, saying that plaintiffs did not adequately prove that Invisiblewear Brunette Dry Shampoo contained dangerously high levels of benzene.

I support any action that helps create a real market without trying to use marketing strategies to manipulate uninformed customers and exploit buzzwords for profit. But, without denying the previous comments, please provide details of brands that, with real data, do not test products on animals, and that everything they use in their manufacturing is 100% made in the USA. But I repeat, with verifiable data, because we may uncover a campaign against a company that speaks its mind. Regards.
