Pradaxa adverse side effects include bleeding riskThose patients who began taking the medication Pradaxa who anticipated positive outcomes but ultimately suffered from Pradaxa adverse side effects could be eligible to pursue a lawsuit with the help of an experienced attorney.

Unfortunately, many Pradaxa adverse side effects have been recorded by users of the drug, the most prevalent being internal bleeding.

Pradaxa was initially approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2010. However, shortly after that point, many consumers who were given prescriptions for the anticoagulant reported Pradaxa adverse side effects. Some of those patients discontinued their use of the drug due to the severity of injuries caused.

A Pradaxa lawsuit investigation is currently exploring one of the most serious Pradaxa adverse side effects, internal bleeding. Internal bleeding, kidney bleeding and gastrointestinal bleeding have all been reported as Pradaxa adverse side effects. Other Pradaxa adverse side effects may include brain hemorrhage, stroke, death, and heart attack.

Pradaxa Complications

The anticoagulant medication Pradaxa is known as a direct thrombin inhibitor. It was largely marketed as superior to the existing prescription drug warfarin, since it required less monitoring of the patient on a regular basis and very little or no changes made to a patient’s diet.

Despite this, a number of Pradaxa adverse side effects were reported by those patients who received prescriptions for the medication. One of the challenges with Pradaxa bleeding side effects is that those early patients did not have access to a reversal agent. This meant that serious internal bleeding could develop so suddenly that a patient had little or no time to react or to know what was happening. This put those patients at risk of life-threatening internal bleeds and associated injuries.

While Pradaxa and similar medications were marketed as superior to the industry standard drug warfarin, warfarin had a reversal agent in vitamin K. This allows a patient’s blood to clot normally once again and discontinue any serious internal bleeding. Pradaxa did not have a similar reversal agent until it had already been on the market for several years.

Pradaxa Injury Reports

More than 307 reports associated with Pradaxa adverse side effects were filed with the Food and Drug Administration in just the first three months that the drug was on the market, and more than 250 deaths were allegedly connected to Pradaxa use because of internal bleeding.

Numerous Pradaxa side effects lawsuits allege that the manufacturer is responsible for these injuries due to failing to warn consumers or the medical community about the possibility of serious danger.

Side effect lawsuits lodged against Pradaxa’s manufacturers say that once an internal bleed begins, there is no way to stop it until dialysis is used to flush the body of Pradaxa. This can take hours and can lead to dangers linked to blood transfusions for the patient or the death of the patient entirely.

A 2011 notice from the Food and Drug Administration officially warned users of Pradaxa about the serious complications of uncontrollable internal bleeding directly linked to taking the medication as prescribed. Dozens of Pradaxa lawsuits have already been filed on behalf of those patients who have seriously suffered.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
