rescue it resurfacer

A number of consumers are reporting dissatisfaction with Rescue It Wood and Concrete Resurfacer, a product of Olympic Paints & Stains.

About Olympic Rescue It

According to Olympic’s website, Rescue It is a 100 percent acrylic resurfacing treatment designed for reconditioning worn or weathered wood and concrete. Olympic says Rescue It seals splinters down and fills cracks up to 1/4 inch deep. It’s also purported to provide waterproofing protection.

Olympic recommends using Rescue It for resurfacing old, gray weathered wood, old concrete, and new concrete that has had 30 days to cure. The company also says Rescue It can be used to create a non-slip surface to new wood.

Consumers Express Dissatisfaction With Rescue It

In online forums, some consumer reviews report Olympic Rescue It did not perform as advertised. Many consumers say that despite following the preparation and application instructions, Rescue It began to bubble and peel with exposure to weather.

Some consumers reported failure within only weeks of application. Others noticed the problems seemed to happen simultaneous with exposure to rain or changes in temperature. The same problems have been reported even in some cases where Rescue It was applied by a professional contractor.

The instructions for applying Rescue It require a good bit of prep work. Preparation of surfaces may require sanding, cleaning, and filling of cracks and other blemishes. The instructions for concrete surfaces say that Rescue It is designed to provide excellent adhesion to aged concrete. However, in review after review, consumers say that Olympic Rescue It bubbled and peeled even after the surface was prepared according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

The Olympic brand is one of many recognized brands of home improvement products provided by PPG Architectural Coatings – brands like Glidden, Liquid Nails, and Pittsburgh Paints.

Olympic does offer a general guarantee of satisfaction, as long as Rescue It is applied after correctly prepping the surface according to the product’s instructions. However, the guarantee is limited to the consumer’s choice of either a refund or replacement with another product.

Many consumers have expressed extreme dissatisfaction that the guarantee does not cover the loss of their time and effort expended in prepping for and applying Rescue It, as well as the added expense involved in redoing their projects with a different product.

Olympic Rescue It Consumer Lawsuit Investigation

Olympic’s limited satisfaction guarantee may not be the consumer’s only avenue for recourse. If the product fails to be suitable for the purpose for which it was intended, it may run afoul of certain state products warranty laws.

A product that does not perform as its manufacturer said it should may also violate state consumer protection laws, some of which provide for awards of double damages and attorneys’ fees where the manufacturer’s conduct was particularly culpable.

Some federal consumer protection laws may also apply.

An investigation into complaints about Olympic Rescue It is now ongoing. Products liability attorneys are interested in hearing from purchasers of Olympic Rescue it who got results from that product contrary to what they were led to expect. If a large number of consumers have been similarly affected by a defective product, an Olympic Rescue It class action lawsuit may be an option.
