Nuna data breach class action overview:
- Who: A Massachusetts woman, plaintiff Zoila Lema, filed a class action lawsuit against Nuna Baby Essentials.
- Why: Lema claims Nuna is responsible for a data breach that exposed customer payment card information.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Pennsylvania federal court.
Nuna Baby Essentials is facing a class action lawsuit over claims it failed to properly secure and safeguard its customers’ payment card information that was then exposed in a data breach. This is the second class action lawsuit filed against the company this year (see: “Nuna class action alleges Rava car seats unsafe for children.”)
Plaintiff Zoila Lema filed the class action complaint against Nuna Baby Essentials Inc. on March 11 in a Pennsylvania federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.
Nuna Baby Essentials publicly disclosed the data breach on Feb. 21, 2025, the lawsuit says.
The company, which specializes in the design and manufacturing of high-quality baby gear products such as car seats, strollers and highchairs, revealed that an unauthorized third party gained access to and copied certain information from its IT network between Sept. 8, 2024 and Dec. 6, 2024, the complaint says.
The compromised information includes names, billing addresses, payment card numbers, expiration dates and security codes, Lema alleges.
Nuna could have prevented the data breach, class action alleges
Lema claims Nuna failed to take precautions designed to keep its customers’ personally identifiable information secure.
She alleges Nuna breached its duty by failing to implement or maintain adequate security practices, despite having the financial resources and personnel necessary to prevent the data breach.
Lema claims she and other customers have suffered financial losses caused by misuse of their information, the loss or diminished value of their data as a result of the breach, lost time associated with detecting and preventing identity theft and theft of personal and financial information.
Lema’s lawsuit looks to represent anyone in the United States impacted by the Nuna data breach. She is suing for negligence, negligence per se, unjust enrichment, breach of implied contract and breach of confidence and is seeking certification of the class action, damages, fees, costs and a jury trial.
Last year, Nuna Baby Essentials recalled more than 600,000 of its Nuna Rava car seats due to concerns that the harnesses could loosen. The recall led to a class action lawsuit filed on Feb. 6, 2025.
