In a new abdominal hernia mesh lawsuit, an Arizona woman claims her mesh caused serious complications that required revision surgery
The plaintiff, Rose B., was implanted with a C-Qur mesh device in June 2011. However, sometime after implantation, she says she began experiencing severe side effects. As a result of these side effects, she underwent revision surgery to explant the device.
Rose then decided to pursue litigation against Atrium, the device’s manufacturer, for failing to give adequate warning about the device’s defects that led to these problems. Rose’s abdominal hernia mesh lawsuit alleges that she not only suffered from pain, swelling, and adhesions, but even re-herniation. These side effects allegedly necessitated revision surgery, which brought along its own risks and further medical expenses.
Rose filed her abdominal hernia mesh lawsuit on multiple counts, including negligence, design defect, failure to warn, breach of express and implied warranties, defective product, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and several others.
Rose and many others in a similar situation have turned to litigation over these complications, which may in some cases cause long-lasting or permanent injuries. Pursuing a hernia mesh side effects lawsuit could offer a method of gaining compensation for the pain and suffering caused by these complications.
Abdominal Hernia Mesh Basics
The device involved in this lawsuit is an Atrium C-Qur, a popular option for repairing damage caused by a hernia. Hernia repair mesh is a kind of woven material used to reinforce a weak area or patch a hole. Unfortunately, more and more patients are reporting a number of serious complications after implantation with a hernia device.
Abdominal Hernia Mesh Complications
Side effects linked with an abdominal hernia mesh device include, among others:
- Chronic pain
- Hernia recurrence
- Rejection of the mesh
- Infection
- Device migration
- Scarring
- Inflammation
- Organ adhesion
- Erosion
- Tissue and nerve damage
- Death
Hernia mesh complications such as device migration can later lead to more serious problems like infection, adhesion, and device failure. In some cases, hernia mesh problems may be serious enough that patients are forced to undergo revision surgery to remove the device completely. Revision surgery adds further risk as well as medical expenses.
Some may begin experiencing hernia mesh side effects immediately after surgery, but for others, symptoms may not appear for weeks, months, or even years afterward.
