A voluntary Zinbryta recall affects numerous patients taking the medication for the treatment of multiple sclerosis issues.
Zinbryta was often recommended for those patients who have not responded or have been unable to take other Zinbryta treatment options.
A voluntary Zinbryta recall, however, means that the drug will no longer be given to those patients who have multiple sclerosis as a result of serious side effects reported. The voluntary Zinbryta recall happened because of claims about inflammatory brain disorders such as meningoencephalitis. These issues were reported throughout Spain and Germany.
When a patient takes any medications, there’s a chance of side effects and problems. When a patient begins to develop unexplained and serious side effects beyond what the manufacturer’s product information led the patient to expect, this can prompt a lawsuit. For those patients who did not respond or were not able to use other MS medications, Zinbryta might have been recommended. Some of those patients were at risk for developing inflammatory brain conditions.
The voluntary Zinbryta recall means that no patients with MS will be able to get the drug from now on. Patients who took it should talk to their doctor to determine whether any problems developed due to taking the medication.
All clinical trials associated with Zinbryta have currently been paused and a review of Zinbryta has been initiated by the European Medicines Agency. In 2016, Zinbryta was initially approved for the treatment of multiple sclerosis. It was dosed much less frequency than other MS brands at once a month and was formulated in a more convenient portion.
However, despite the fact that Zinbryta does come with a boxed warning and the FDA relegated it as a last choice after other treatment options for MS have been ruled out, the voluntary Zinbryta recall was issued after reports that patinets suffered significant side effects. The voluntary Zinbryta recall was initiated on the part of the companies who manufactured the medication after receiving numerous reports from patients of the development of inflammatory brain disorders.
At the time of the drug’s approval in the European Union, it was already associated with liver damage side effects. The European Medicines Agency issued a temporary order to restrict Zinbryta use after one patient died of liver disease in July 2017. The Zinbryta voluntary recall is being carried out in conjunction with the Food and Drug Administration in the United States in order to properly notify all affected patients about their other options while the drug is taken off the market.
Those patients suffering from inflammatory brain disorders might not initially know the connection between the use of Zinbryta and this medication. But other side effects including Stevens Johnson’s Syndrome and liver failure have also been reported in connection with this medication. If you or someone you know has already been hurt because of this medication, you might have grounds for a lawsuit against the manufacturer. Scheduling a consultation with an experienced attorney is strongly recommended.
