Overview of Essure Lawsuits
The Essure permanent birth control device consists of two metal coils, each of which is implanted in the fallopian tubes. The tissue surrounding it will eventually swell, and ultimately prevent sperm to egg fertilization.
However numerous patients have reported alleged injuries caused by Essure, which caused some to have the coils removed and in some cases required a full hysterectomy. The women involved in this Essure lawsuit are:
- Plaintiff Kimberly G. reported potential injuries caused by Essure on Oct. 21, 2016. Not long after getting the coils implanted, she started complaining of unusual symptoms. Kimberly had to eventually undergo a hysterectomy, with her doctor stating it was the only way to safely remove the Essure coils.
- Plaintiff Crystal J. reported potential injuries caused by Essure on June 2, 2015. Not long after having the device implanted, she began experiencing severe pelvic pain and other symptoms. Crystal eventually had to undergo revision surgery to remove the Essure coils, with her doctor stating her symptoms were possible Essure complications.
- Plaintiff Winsetta M. had reported potential injuries caused by Essure to her doctors around Sept. 8. 2015. After Winsetta reported her symptoms persisting, her doctor recommended that the device be removed. The Essure coils were reportedly removed on Dec. 9, 2015, with Winsetta reporting her side effects had resolved.
- Plaintiff Crystal S. had reported potential injuries caused by Essure to her doctors around July 1, 2016. After her side effects continued, her doctors recommended that the devices be removed through hysterectomy. She underwent this procedure on Aug. 26, 2016, after her doctor stated it was the safest way to remove the Essure coils.
- Plaintiff Tawana W. complained of injuries caused by Essure to her doctors soon after the device was implanted. When her side effects persisted, her physician recommended that the device should be removed through hysterectomy. Tawana is expected to undergo hysterectomy at some point in the future, to see if her side effects are resolved.
- Plaintiff Mykia W. reported potential injuries caused by Essure on Jan. 19, 2016. Her doctor recommended the device be removed through a total hysterectomy, undertaken on May 04, 2016, as her doctors stated it was safest option for device removal.
- Plaintiff Myosha W. had reported potential injuries caused by Essure on Dec. 31, 2015. As her symptoms would not go away, her doctors recommended she undergo a hysterectomy to remove the coils. Myosha is expected to undergo hysterectomy at some point in the future to see if the complications are resolved.
At all times relevant, the claimants used the Essure birth control method for its intended purpose and did not deviate from prescription instructions. Each of these women claim they would not have opted for the device if they had known about potential injuries caused by Essure. They claim that they had no way of knowing the risks ahead of time.
This Essure Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-04417-JP in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

I’ve had the device implanted since 2011. I’m 44 with three children and no longer able to work due to excruciating pain wear cysts have formed around the coils and can barely function as a normal adult to care for my son’s. I really need to talk to someone everybody that I have spoken to was not able to help me and what sabotaged through the lawsuit and manipulated coerced as I was pleading for them to remove my name as I no longer want to be a part of it and in the emergency room when I had beg them to remove me and they refused offered $45,000 like the rest of the women that was a blatant lie I never got anything and they completely failed me and left me to rot
