Mirena IUD headaches intracranial hypertension pseudotumor cerebriHave you been experiencing Mirena IUD headaches after using the popular birth control method? Your Mirena IUD headaches may be a symptom indicating a more serious condition known as pseudotumor cerebri.

Indeed, a growing number of injured IUD patients are coming forward with their own stories of complications after being implanted with the birth control device. Patients have reported Mirena IUD headaches and other symptoms that can indicate pseudotumor cerebri (PTC).

If you have suffered from pseudotumor cerebri symptoms such as Mirena IUD headaches after being implanted with the birth control device, you may be able to file a Mirena lawsuit.

What is the Mirena IUD?

The Mirena IUD is a widely-used form of birth control which is manufactured and distributed by Bayer Healthcare. The Mirena IUD was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just recently, in 2009. Mirena is a small, flexible IUD implant that is implanted in the uterus. The device is made to gradually release the birth control hormone levonorgestrel directly into the uterus.

Unfortunately, this popular birth control device has actually been linked with serious complications pseudotumor cerebri. In recent years, as patients become aware of the connection between the Mirena IUD and pseudotumor cerebri, more and more have begun filing lawsuits.

While certain types of birth control have been linked with pseudotumor cerebri for decades, some as far back as the 1990s, new research has indicated that implantation of the Mirena IUD may place patients at an even higher risk. According to one June 2015, there have been a “higher than expected number of reports of ICH,” or intracranial hypertension.

What is Pseudotumor Cerebri?

Pseudotumor cerebri is also known as intracranial hypertension, or ICH. Pseudotumor cerebri is named this because it shares a number of symptoms with actual brain tumors, but PTC is not actually a tumor. Though this condition is not fatal, patients that suffer from pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms can experience pain and even permanent damage.

Pseudotumor cerebri is caused by the buildup of excess cerebrospinal fluid in the skull. As you might expect, this can cause serious problems. Excess cerebrospinal fluid can result in several pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms, including Mirena IUD headaches and extreme pressure inside the skull, causing headaches and migraines. As the pressure builds, it may begin to affect a patient’s vision, causing partial vision loss or even total blindness.

Symptoms of Pseudotumor Cerebri Include Mirena IUD Headaches

Look out for these pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms while using a Mirena IUD:

  • Headaches
  • Migraines
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Changes in vision
  • Ringing or “whooshing” in the ears
  • Problems walking
  • Neck stiffness
  • Forgetfulness
  • Depression

One of the most common symptoms of pseudotumor cerebri is Mirena IUD headaches, which can seem very innocuous. Nevertheless, if you have been implanted with the Mirena IUD and begin experiencing Mirena IUD headaches, you should stay aware and cautious of your symptoms, as this may indicate pseudotumor cerebri.

Filing a Mirena PTC Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has suffered from pseudotumor cerebri symptoms like Mirena IUD headaches, you may be able to file a Mirena IUD lawsuit. While filing such a lawsuit cannot take away the pain of pseudotumor cerebri Mirena symptoms, filing a Mirena PTC lawsuit may help to compensate for the pain, suffering, and expense that PTC and its associated medical procedures have caused.
