Memphis International Airport Parking Class Action Settlement

By Kimberly Mirando

airport parkingMemphis-Shelby County Airport Authority, which owns and operates Memphis International Airport, has reached a class action lawsuit settlement over allegations it printed too much information on the debit and credit card receipts of those who purchased parking. As a result, if you paid for parking at Memphis International Airport between 2008 and 2009, you may be able to receive parking vouchers worth $15 or $30 from the class action settlement.

The MSCAA parking settlement resolves a class action lawsuit over whether the Airport violated a federal law known as the Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (“FACTA”) by printing debit and credit card receipts for parking charges that displayed: (1) more than the last five digits of the person’s credit or debit card number; and/or (2) the expiration date of the person’s debit or credit card. The Airport denies liability, but has agreed to the proposed $1,005,000 million settlement because it avoids costs and risks from continuing the lawsuit.

You’re considered a class member of the Memphis Airport FACTA settlement if you received an electronically printed receipt from the Airport Authority for parking between June 4, 2008 and June 4, 2009, wherein the receipt displayed: (1) more than the last five digits of your credit card or debit card number; and/or (2) the expiration date of your credit card or debit card number.

Under the Memphis Airport parking class action settlement, you’ll be able to submit a claim form to receive parking vouchers worth $15 (if you can provide one receipt proving the FACTA violations) or $30 (if you can provide more than one receipts proving the violations). If the number of vouchers issued to claimants does not meet the guaranteed minimum value of the class action settlement fund, then the Memphis Airport will reduce the daily parking rate by $2.00 per transaction to all persons parking in “economy” parking at the Airport, until the minimum is met.

To receive your free Memphis Airport parking vouchers, you must submit a valid claim form postmarked by February 11, 2012.
