  • Who: Plaintiff Raffi Kelechian filed a class action lawsuit against Match Group Inc.
  • Why: Kelechian claims Match Group failed to adequately safeguard users’ private information during a recent data breach.
  • Where: The Match class action lawsuit was filed in Texas federal court.

A new class action lawsuit alleges Match Group failed to adequately safeguard its users’ private information during a recent data breach.

Match Group is an American internet and technology company that owns and operates a large global portfolio of online dating services, including Tinder, Match.com, Hinge, OkCupid and Plenty of Fish.

Plaintiff Raffi Kelechian claims Match Group failed to provide timely and adequate notice to its users that their private information had been compromised during the data breach.

Kelechian wants to represent a nationwide class of individuals residing in the United States whose private information was accessed and/or acquired by an unauthorized party during the data breach, which allegedly took place in late January 2026.

“Defendant failed to adequately protect the plaintiff’s and class members’ private information — and failed to even encrypt or redact this highly sensitive information,” the Match class action lawsuit says.

Kelechian argues Match Group failed to implement and maintain adequate and reasonable measures to ensure that its users’ private information was safeguarded and failed to follow applicable protocols, policies and procedures regarding the encryption of data.

Match data breach compromised names, transaction IDs, lawsuit claims

The Match Group’s data breach compromised private information, such as users’ names, transaction IDs, IP addresses and geographic locations, Kelechian claims.

Kelechian argues Match Group could have prevented the data breach by properly encrypting or otherwise protecting its equipment and computer files containing private information.

“Defendant could have prevented this data breach by, among other things, properly encrypting or otherwise protecting their equipment and computer files containing private information,” the Match class action lawsuit says.

Kelechian claims Match Group is guilty of negligence, invasion of privacy and breach of implied contract and is seeking declaratory and injunctive relief and a jury trial.

Meanwhile, SoundCloud is also facing a class action lawsuit over a data breach that allegedly compromised the personally identifying information of nearly 30 million users.
