Drug recall overview:

  • Who: Glenmark Pharmaceuticals issued a recall for nearly 40 common generic drugs — including generic versions of the popular drugs Zyrtec, Tylenol, Advil and Motrin — manufactured at a factory in India.
  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the drugs failed to meet current good manufacturing standards.
  • Where: The generic drug recall affects consumers nationwide.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals issued a nationwide recall last month for nearly 40 different types of generic drugs. Many are generic versions of popular over-the-counter medicines sold under the brand names Advil, Zyrtec, Tylenol, and Motrin.

The recall, which also includes prescription drugs, was initiated over concerns the products failed to meet current good manufacturing standards, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The FDA designated the drug recall a Class II recall, meaning the recalled drugs either pose a reasonable chance of causing temporary or reversible health problems or a low probability of serious or irreversible adverse health effects.

In other recent drug-related recall news, Costco recalled one lot of Kirkland Signature Severe Cold & Flu Plus Congestion medication in January due to possible foreign matter found in the product.

No consumer advisory has yet been issued for the Glemmark recall, but consumers should not take the medication, and people on prescriptions should at best consult their health provider. Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
