Medtech Products has initiated a recall of its Little Remedies Honey Cough Syrup due to potential bacterial contamination.

The Little Remedies Honey Cough Syrup recall affects five specific lots of the product, which were distributed nationwide in the United States. The contamination involves Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can lead to gastrointestinal issues and, in severe cases, can be fatal.

The recall, announced on June 18 by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), affects products packaged in a 4 fl oz amber bottle with a UPC of 7-56184-10737-9, and includes lot numbers 0039, 0545, 0640, 0450 and 1198, with expiration dates ranging from November 2025 to December 2026.

Medtech Products, a subsidiary of Prestige Consumer Healthcare, issued a voluntary recall  on June 17 as a precautionary measure due to the presence of Bacillus cereus and concerns over the product’s shelf stability.

Recall notice urges customers to stop using the product

According to the recall, Bacillus cereus contamination can cause two types of foodborne illnesses, one resulting in nausea and vomiting, and the other in diarrhea and stomach cramps.

“Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term illness, exposure to high levels of foodborne B. cereus can cause death,” the announcement read.

Consumers are advised to stop using the product immediately and consult a healthcare provider if they experience any symptoms related to the contamination.

Medtech Products is taking steps to address the issue by offering reimbursements to customers who purchased the affected lots.
