A new class action lawsuit alleges 7UP soda products are falsely advertised as being made with 100% natural flavors.

Plaintiff Shant Joukjian filed the class action complaint against Dr Pepper/Seven Up and Keurig Dr Pepper on May 27 in California federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.

Joukjian’s lawsuit claims the companies falsely advertise their 7UP soda products as being made with 100% natural flavors, when in reality, they contain significant amounts of synthetic ingredients.

The lawsuit argues the companies’ labeling, marketing and sale of 7UP products as being made with “100% Natural Flavors” or “All-Natural Flavors” is illegal, unfair and deceptive.

“The unlawfully and deceptively represented products are sold through multiple channels, including, but not limited to, direct-to-consumer sales via KDP’s Amazon.com store as well as through third-party merchants operating both brick-and-mortar locations and online platforms,” the 7UP class action states.

7UP soda contains synthetic ingredients, plaintiff alleges

The lawsuit claims the companies’ 7UP products contain synthetic ingredients, including industrially manufactured citric acid, which significantly influences the flavor profile of the products.

The plaintiff also alleges the products contain potassium citrate, another synthetic ingredient that contributes to the flavor.

The lawsuit argues that the companies’ conduct violates the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act and California’s consumer protection laws.

The plaintiff seeks to represent a nationwide class and a California subclass of consumers who purchased 7UP products marketed as being made with 100% natural flavors.

The lawsuit seeks damages, restitution and injunctive relief to remedy and prevent future harm.

In related news, a class action lawsuit filed in California federal court alleges that Coca‑Cola falsely marketed its Sprite and Fanta beverages as containing “100% Natural Flavors” despite including synthetic ingredients, such as citric acid and artificial sweeteners.
