Langer Juice class action overview:

  • Who: Plaintiff Hattie K. Arres filed a class action lawsuit against Langer Juice Company Inc.
  • Why: The plaintiff alleges Langer Juice misled consumers by labeling its juice products as “100% juice” when they contain additives.
  • Where: The Langer Juice class action was filed in California federal court.

A new class action lawsuit accuses Langer Juice of falsely advertising its juice products as “100% juice” when they actually contain various additives.

Plaintiff Hattie K. Arres filed the class action complaint against Langer Juice on June 10 in California federal court, alleging violations of state and federal consumer laws.

According to the lawsuit, Langer Juice markets its products as “100% juice” or “100% pure juice,” leading consumers to believe they are purchasing beverages made solely from juice.

However, the products allegedly contain added ingredients, such as ascorbic acid, pectin, xanthan gum, citric acid, acacia gum, natural flavors, malic acid and organic flavor.

These additives, the plaintiff claims, are inconsistent with consumers’ reasonable expectations of a product labeled as “100% juice.”

Langer Juice misled consumers, plaintiff claims

Arres says she purchased Langer Juice products believing they were made entirely of juice due to the labeling.

She alleges she was misled into paying a premium for the products, which she says she would not have bought had she known they contained additives.

The lawsuit seeks to represent consumers nationwide who purchased Langer Juice products labeled as “100% juice” or “100% pure juice.”

Arres is seeking monetary recovery for herself and the proposed class, including restitution and disgorgement of profits as well as an injunction to prevent Langer Juice from continuing its allegedly deceptive advertising practices.

The complaint alleges Langer Juice’s conduct violates the California Unfair Competition Law, False Advertising Law and the Consumers Legal Remedies Act. It also includes claims for breach of warranty and unjust enrichment.

Arres argues Langer Juice has gained an unfair competitive advantage over companies that comply with labeling laws, as consumers are willing to pay more for products they believe are healthier and of higher quality.

In related news, two consumers filed a class action lawsuit against Mott’s LLP, alleging the company deceived customers by advertising its ReaLemon and ReaLime products as “real” and “natural” even though they contain artificial preservatives.
