Janssen Research & Development LLC and Johnson & Johnson face a new internal bleeding Xarelto lawsuit filed by a woman alleging she suffered severe internal bleeding complications.
Plaintiff Fannie R. filed the internal bleeding lawsuit joining growing multidistrict litigation (MDL) filed against the company in Louisiana federal court. The lawsuit was filed on July 25, 2018 and demands a jury trial.
According to the internal bleeding Xarelto lawsuit, Fannie is a resident and citizen of Jefferson County, Ala. She claims she began ingesting Xarelto from approximately June 13, 2016 and Aug. 11, 2016. However, on Aug. 11, 2016, she says she suffered an internal bleeding event from taking Xarelto.
Fannie says that she “suffered various injuries, serious physical pain and suffering, medical, hospital and surgical expenses as a direct result of her use of Xarelto,” the internal bleeding Xarelto lawsuit states.
The internal bleeding Xarelto lawsuit was filed on multiple counts including strict liability, manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, negligent misrepresentation, fraud, and violation of consumer protection laws.
Overview: Filing an Internal Bleeding Xarelto Lawsuit
Thousands of people have filed an internal bleeding Xarelto lawsuit over alleged severe adverse side effects and complications they have suffered. Side effects linked to the medication have included hematoma, stroke, and severe internal bleeding.
Xarelto (rivaroxaban) was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an anticoagulant medication in 2011. But since then, thousands of lawsuits have been filed and have been consolidated into a large MDL centered on allegations that Xarelto causes patients to suffer more internal bleeding injuries than what they were led to expect.
Xarelto lawsuits have also been filed due to the drug’s previous lack of a reversal agent to help stop and prevent internal bleeding side effects.
Side effects associated with Xarelto have included gastrointestinal bleeding, uncontrollable internal bleeding, hemorrhaging, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and ischemic stroke.
Internal bleeding Xarelto lawsuits filed have entailed a serious number of complications and injuries stemming from anticoagulant use that have included:
- Retinal hemorrhages
- Abdominal hemorrhages
- Intracranial hemorrhages
- Adrenal bleeding
- Excessive blood loss
- Epidural hematoma
- Stroke
- Wound infection and complication
- Death
Xarelto’s reversal agent Andexxa (andexanet alfa) was only recently approved to help reverse and stop severe bleeding side effects. However, Xarelto did not have a reversal agent when it was approved by the FDA.
The standard drug to help patients who required a blood thinner has been warfarin. While warfarin is an anticoagulant medication just like Xarelto, it requires diet changes along with frequent monitoring.
However, Xarelto’s marketers advertised Xarelto as a superior anticoagulant mediation claiming that it did not require patients to undergo a diet change and because of its standard dosing. What has previously led and continues to lead patients filing Xarelto lawsuits includes the medication’s prior lack of a reversal agent that could have helped stop and prevent serious internal bleeding side effects and complications.
The Internal Bleeding Xarelto Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-06995-EEF-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The Xarelto MDL is in re: Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2592, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
