In a recent homeopathic remedy class action lawsuit, a jury declares that Hyland’s Inc. was facing a potential $255 million class action lawsuit.
The company had allegedly tricked millions of consumers into buying a “sugar pill” that provides no medical benefits, despite claiming to do so.
Seven plaintiffs who purchased the alleged product represented the Class of consumers, claiming that the company has been misleading customers for years through their deceptive marketing and packaging.
The Hyland’s homeopathic products had claimed to be able to help treat various conditions including: allergies, leg cramps, migraines, and drowsiness.
Overall, the plaintiffs allege they experienced no results after taking the Hyland’s products, and are asking to be fully refunded for their purchases, totaling to $225 million on a class-wide basis.
The plaintiffs’ lawyers state that the homeopathic product manufacturer was liable for the consumers’ financial damages, as the plaintiffs would not have bought the products if they had known it was defective.
It is important to note that Hyland’s places their products in traditional drug stores, where mainstream medications are bought, to reportedly increase the chances of their dietary supplements being purchased by consumers.
Overview of Homeopathic Remedy Allegations
Hyland’s had defended itself in the class action lawsuit, citing two studies the company conducted to test their homeopathy products, comparing the dietary supplements to placebos. Additionally, the defendant’s lawyers stated that plaintiffs had to provide adequate proof that Hyland’s had caused undo harm to the plaintiffs.
Furthermore, Hyland’s reports to have a high customer satisfaction rate of 94 percent, with only a small number of consumers issuing complaints. Hyland’s argues that if their labeling was such a problem for their dietary supplements, then there would be more plaintiffs attached to the class action lawsuit.
The company’s attorneys continue to defend against all allegations, and claim the plaintiffs’ attorneys are attacking based on the faulty reputation of homeopathic medicine. Hyland’s argues that their dietary supplements are based on the traditional medicines, which were in practice thousands of years before modern medicine was established.
The plaintiffs state that this does not change the fact that they bought these supplements based on false advertisements, and were very surprised to find that remedies were merely sugar pills.
The homeopathic remedy industry is worth billions and has experienced significant growth over the years, as numerous consumers continue to seek natural remedies. Homeopathic companies have been capitalizing on this trend for years, but have allegedly relied on false science and exaggerated claims to boost sales.
The complaints from consumers eventually reached the ears of the FDA, forcing the agency to consider implementing stricter guidelines on widely available homeopathic remedies. In April 2015, the agency held a listening session for two days, at which time experts discussed the homeopathic products and how best to regulate them.
This Homeopathic Medicine Class Action Lawsuit is Kim Allen, et al. v. Hyland’s Inc., et al., Case No. 2:12-cv-01150, in the U.S. District Court of Central California.

One thought on Hyland’s Faced $255M in Homeopathic Remedy Class Action
I love Hyands products. They have always worked gently to help our bodies do want the were meant to do. I am NOT in favor of this Lawsuit. I am sure “big pharma” is behind this. They want their high priced dangerous drugs to be used. Shame on the attorneys to buy into this and don’t care they are wanting to extract from a very reputable hardworking company their finances and put the under. We will still find a way of healing naturally. We Don’t want your drugs.
