  • Where: The recall is active across the United States.

Hillshire Brands Company is recalling more than 58 million pounds of corn dogs and sausage-on-a-stick products due to possible contamination with wood pieces.

The Hillshire recall was announced Sept. 27, 2025, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

These products, packaged between March 17 and Sept. 26, 2025, bear establishment numbers EST-582 or P-894 and were distributed nationwide, including to retail outlets, food service locations, school districts, and Department of Defense facilities.

The contamination issue was identified following multiple consumer complaints, including five reports of injuries. Hillshire Brands’ investigation revealed that wooden sticks inadvertently entered the production process before the products were battered.

“FSIS is concerned that some products may be in consumers’ refrigerators and freezers, along with school and institution refrigerators and freezers,” the recall notice says.

Consumers urged to check freezers for recalled Hillshire products

The recall notice emphasizes that consumers should check their freezers for the affected products and refrain from consuming them. The products were sold online and shipped nationwide, potentially reaching a wide array of consumers.

“Consumers, schools, and institutions who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them,” the recall notice says.

The FSIS will conduct recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the products are no longer available to consumers and that customers are informed about the recall. Hillshire Brands is actively addressing the issue by working with FSIS to ensure that all affected products, including State Fair Corn Dogs, are removed from circulation.

Consumers with questions about the recall can contact Hillshire Brands at 888-747-7611. Additionally, the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline is available for food safety inquiries at 888-674-6854.

Hillshire Brands says it has not received any additional reports of injuries related to the recall beyond the initial five complaints. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions monitors such situations closely as they can sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
