Chevy AveoGeneral Motors has added more vehicles to the millions of cars recalled this year due to a variety of safety concerns. The latest GM recall involves a defect in the headlights of 218,000 sub-compact Chevy Aveo models that could cause a fire.

Nearly 3 million vehicles were recalled two weeks ago by GM, and last week 2.5 million more were added to the list. The Aveo recall brings the total to more than 13 million this year, many for serious safety issues.

Among the recalls are about 140,000 Chevrolet Malibus from the 2014 model year for hydraulic brake malfunctions, and 1.3 million Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, and GMC Acadia medium crossovers from the 2009-2014 model years, and Saturn Outlooks from 2009-2010 because front safety lap belt cables can fatigue and separate over time.

After having dealt with a number of GM class action lawsuits, including a GM ignition switch recall class action lawsuit that pertains to a problem that could have been present in millions of vehicles, GM had added 35 product investigators since the beginning of this year. The problems they are uncovering range from relatively minor issues, such as Chevrolet Corvettes recalled for loss of low-beam headlamps, to quite dangerous concerns like those with 2015-model Cadillac Escalades and Escalade ESVs. More than 1,400 of the Escalades and ESVs have been urgently recalled because an insufficiently heated plastic weld that attaches the passenger side air bag to the instrument panel assembly could result in a partial deployment of the air bag in the event of a crash.

The Aveo recall involves the daytime running light module in the dashboard center stack, which can overheat, melt and catch fire. According to the company, GM is aware of an unspecified number of fires due to the problem.

General Motors has acknowledged that at least 13 deaths occurred as a result of its ignition switch defect. In that case, the key cylinder can become unstable, especially with keys that have remote entry or other objects of mild weight. The key in the cylinder can become dislodged, causing the vehicle to lose power in a fraction of a second, and the drivers can lose control of the vehicle, in addition to deactivating the airbags and brakes.

A GM ignition switch recall class action lawsuit attorney recently said the company plans to compensate drivers and passengers involved in GM ignition car accident, although the amount that the individual GM lawsuits merit could prolong the lawsuits. However, the automaker has been proactive in hiring a mediator regarding the GM lawsuits. In addition to the 13 deaths that have been acknowledged by General Motors, up to 300 additional fatalities might be connected to the ignition switch defect, in addition to an unknown number of injuries.

Hey, here’s my story… I had a 2009 Chevy Aveo, and I was struck on the Highway by another driver at more than 50 miles an hour hitting me on the driver side and my airbags never deployed. I would like to know if there is a class action suit open against this? This was in February of 2018 so, could I still open a suit against GM for this? Because me and my child was severely injured.

  4. KRISTEN WEAVER says:

Hi. My 2007 Chevy Aveo’s driver side headlight wires are all black and burned. I haven’t had a headlight on that side for years Each time I call GM regarding a recall for this specific problem they tell me my vin# isn’t in the recall. To get it “checked” I would need to pay at least $80 to have one of their certified dealers check it out to make sure it IS the fault of GM and the recall part. I don’t feel I should have to pay for something that’s their fault. Here’s what the recall states: “General Motors is recalling certain model year 2004-2008 Chevrolet Aveo vehicles equipped with daytime running lights (DRL). In the affected vehicles, there may be heat generated within the DRL module located in the center console in the instrument panel, which could melt the DRL module.”
This is exactly what’s going on. The lights on the radio also haven’t worked in years. When I tried explaining to GM that I’m driving my kids around in a vehicle with burned and melted wires and that I don’t have an extra $80 to just hand over to a dealer, they didn’t care. Is there a lawsuit for this I can join in? Thank you
