Harbor Freight recall overview: 

  • Who: Harbor Freight Tools is recalling about 53,000 Bauer-branded 20V Battery-Powered 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayers. 
  • Why: The recall was initiated over concerns the backpack sprayers’ sprayer pump could leak chemicals into the battery compartment, potentially causing it to overheat and pose a fire hazard. 
  • Where: The recalled backpack sprayers were sold to consumers nationwide.

Harbor Freight Tools issued a recall for around 53,000 battery-powered backpack sprayers over concerns their sprayer pump could leak chemicals into the battery compartment and cause it to overheat. 

The Harbor Freight recall involves Bauer-branded 20V Battery-Powered 4-Gallon Backpack Sprayers with red, white and black coloring and a UPC code of 193175443663. 

Harbor Freight said it is concerned the battery issue could pose a fire hazard. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled backpack sprayers. 

Consumers are also advised to contact Harbor Freight to be given instructions on how to return the recalled backpack sprayer for a full refund in the form of Harbor Freight gift card.

8 overheating battery reports in connection with recall issue

Harbor Freight said it has received eight reports of battery overheating in the recalled backpack sprayers, but no injuries have been reported in connection with the issue, according to the sprayer recall. 

The recalled backpack sprayers were sold on Harbor Freight’s website and at its retail stores nationwide for between $80 and $120 from March 2022 through September 2024.

A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against Harbor Freight in July 2022 over claims the company sent consumers unlawful and unsolicited text messages without first receiving consent to do so.
