Hallmark recalls jar candlesHallmark frosted balsam jar candles were recently recalled by the manufacturer due to concerns that the glass jars can break.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced the recall on Dec. 20, noting that the glass jars of the Hallmark frosted balsam candles can break when the candle is lit.

If the glass jar shatters, it can reportedly pose a fire risk due to the exposed flame and a laceration hazard due to the broken pieces of glass.

Hallmark has received six reports of the glass jar candles breaking which has resulted in fire damage to nearby items. According to the CPSC, no injuries have been reported in association with the incidents.

The recalled Hallmark candles are frosted balsam soy blend jar candles which are green in color and have three wicks. The jars of the candles are around five inches high and 4.5 inches in diameter with a metal top. The front label of the Hallmark candles showcases “Hallmark,” “frosted balsam,” and the image of a snowy pine cone.

Consumers may have purchased the recalled candles between September 2019 and December 2019 for around $28 at Norman’s Hallmark stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

In order to identify the affected Hallmark candles, consumers can look for date code 9211D, SKU code XKT1747 and UPC code 763795556991 which can be found on the white label on the candle’s underside. The recall affects around 4,500 units.

Consumers who purchased the affected Hallmark candles are reportedly eligible for a refund. These customers are instructed to stop using the recalled Hallmark candles and to return them to the store at which they were purchased. Stores will offer a full refund of the purchase price as well as a $10 Hallmark Gold Crown gift card.

If customers would like more information, they can contact Hallmark at 800-HALLMARK (800-425-5627) from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.

Fire damage can quickly become a tragic and expensive problem. If a recalled item poses a fire hazard and starts a blaze within a home, numerous surrounding items could be damaged before the fire is controlled. If the fire is uncontrolled, even more severe damage and injuries can occur.

In order to prevent injuries and property damage from fire hazards, the CPSC initiates recalls of products which are prone to causing fires. There have been several of these recalls over the past few months initiated with the goal of keeping consumers safe.

In October, the CPSC announced the recalls of Zippo’s Ronson Tech Torches as well as Carrier and Bryant brand heat pumps due to fire hazards. The Ronson Tech Torches were reportedly prone to staying on even after the activation trigger was turned off. The Carrier and Bryant brand heat pumps were recalled due to fan failure that caused the pumps to overheat.

In November, the CPSC announced the recalls of Michaels Bead Landing tassel keychain power banks and Yamaha portable generators due to fire concerns. The power banks reportedly contained a battery that could overheat and pose a fire hazard. The portable generators leak gasoline which could pose a fire risk.

Finally, earlier this month, the CPSC announced the recall of MR. STEAK gas grills from Bass Pro which posed the risk of fire if the gas regulator hose with a fuel gage melts.
