Stryker LFIT hip implant system xray imageStryker Corporation is facing a growing multidistrict litigation (MDL), consisting of product liability claims alleging problems with the Stryker LFIT hip implant system.

One of the most recent claims was filed by a couple from New York, with the husband alleging the Stryker LFIT hip implant system was defective in nature and caused him to suffer serious metal hip implant complications. Plaintiff couple Sal I. and Vicki I. are filing this Stryker metal hip lawsuit together, alleging the Stryker LFIT hip implant system has permanently compromised their quality of life.

Like millions of other patients, Sal alleged he had been recommended the Stryker LFIT hip implant system after sustaining serious hip damage from disease or traumatic injury. He claims the recommendation came after his physician reviewed the marketing materials and product information from the company, which reportedly made no mention of potential implant complications.

The Stryker LFIT hip plant is marketed as a durable metal on metal hip implant that should be prescribed to patients wishing to live an active lifestyle. With these benefits in mind, Sal says he underwent hip implant surgery on March 17, 2015, in which the Stryker LFIT hip implant was implemented.

However not long after the device was implanted, Sal allegedly experienced painful side effects that have become widely associated with metal on metal hip implants.

According to the Stryker metal hip lawsuit, Sal underwent revision surgery and had the LFIT femoral head explanted on July 12, 2017.ย The LFIT femoral head was the component of the hip system reportedly causing problems for Sal. He later discovered the metal hip component was subject to a recent recall. However, Sal says he did not learn of this recall until after his revision surgery, which prompted him and his wife to file legal action against Stryker for negligence.

Overview of Stryker Metal Hip Implant Complications

The Stryker LFIT hip implant system consists of all metal components. Hip replacements with all metal components were supposed to be more durable and longer lasting than ceramic or plastic models. In fact, when metal on metal hip implants were first released in the United States, they were thought to be overtly superior to their ceramic and plastic counterparts.

However, there have been numerous injury reports from patients claiming the Stryker LFIT hip implant system and other metal on metal hip implants may be defective in nature.

Many of the device complications stem from the all metal ball and socket joint components of the device, which can shed metal ions into the blood when they interact. This causes metallosis or blood metal poisoning to occur, which can cause a number of other debilitating complications including:

  • Debilitating Pain
  • Limited Movement
  • Fretting
  • Corrosion
  • Infection
  • Inflammation
  • Tissue Death
  • Formation of Pseudotumors
  • Bone Fracture

These complications often require patients to undergo revision surgery, which is considered riskier than the initial implant surgery. While these metal hip implant complications can be devastating to patients, Stryker allegedly failed to warn the general public.

Sal and Vickiโ€™s Stryker metal hip lawsuit is joining MDL No. 2786, where it will stand alongside other claims alleging problems with the Stryker LFIT implant system and its components.

This Stryker Metal Hip Lawsuit is Case 1:18-cv-11410-IT, in the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts.
