In May, the Federal Trade Commission sent the following refunds to consumers who qualified for benefits from settlements made with the agency to resolve various claims.
Cerebral refunds
The FTC sent refund checks to certain customers of telehealth company Cerebral. The refunds were the result of a $5 million class action settlement.
Cerebral agreed to the settlement to resolve the FTC’s claims that it falsely promised its new customers that they could easily cancel at any time.
The FTC argued that Cerebral required its customers to complete a “complex multi-step process” to cancel and, further, continued charging them after an attempt was made to cancel.
The settlement benefits a class of Cerebral customers who tried to cancel their subscription before May 2022 and who were still charged after the date of their request to cancel.
Consumers who received a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days, while those who received a PayPal attempt are asked to accept it within 30 days.
Cycra refunds
The FTC sent a second round of refund payments to consumers who purchased motorcycle, ATV and motocross parts from Cycra and who accepted a previous payment.
The refunds are the result of a settlement made by Cycra to resolve claims the company falsely claimed its ATV, motorcycle and motocross parts were made in the United States.
The FTC argued Cycra regularly imported its ATV, motorcycle and motocross parts from Europe and Asia.
The agency previously sent more than $158,000 in refund payments in May 2024. The FTC said it is now sending more than $11,000 in refunds to more than 770 consumers who accepted their initial payment.
Consumers who received a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days, while those who received a PayPal attempt are asked to accept it within 30 days.
Golden Sunrise settlement
The FTC said it is currently reviewing claims from consumers who want to participate in a settlement agreed to by nutraceutical and pharmaceutical company Golden Sunrise.
The settlement was made to resolve claims Golden Sunrise falsely advertised that its products could treat or cure COVID-19, cancer, Parkinson’s disease and other serious health conditions.
The FTC argued the Golden Sunrise products, in reality, were mostly made of herbs and spices. The agency said it will now use money from the agreed-upon settlement to refund consumers.
The Golden Sunrise products at the center of the FTC’s claims include Primary Plan of Care, Emergency D-Virus Plan of Care, Metabolic Plan of Care and Cancer Plan of Care that were sold by the company between July 2017 and July 2020.
The deadline to make a claim to join the settlement was April 6, 2025. The agency said it is no longer accepting claims.
Amazon Flex driver refunds
The FTC is sending out another round of payments to Amazon Flex drivers whose tips were withheld by Amazon between 2016 and 2019.
The agency first issued refunds in November 2021, returning more than $58.5 million in withheld tips. Since some funds still remain, the FTC is now mailing 19,478 checks worth more than $2.3 million to drivers who accepted the first payment and had at least $600 in tips withheld.
Drivers who receive a check must cash it within 90 days.
iWorks refunds
The FTC is sending out another round of payments to people who paid for misleading government grant and money-making programs sold by iWorks.
According to the FTC, iWorks tricked consumers with deceptive online ads that promised access to government grants or easy ways to earn money. Shoppers were led to believe they were only paying a small fee for shipping, but iWorks then charged them up to $129.95 upfront and hit them with monthly charges of up to $59.95 without proper consent.
The FTC first issued refunds in 2020 and sent a second round in 2022. So far, the agency has returned more than $15.7 million to consumers. Because money remains in the settlement fund, the FTC is now sending over 44,000 additional payments totaling more than $976,000 to people who accepted the second payment and paid iWorks more than $225.
If you received a check, be sure to cash it within 90 days. PayPal payments must be accepted within 30 days.
