In July, the Federal Trade Commission sent the following refunds to consumers who qualified for benefits from settlements made with the agency to resolve various claims.
SL Finance refunds
The FTC sent more than $359,000 in refund checks to people who paid for student debt relief services from SL Finance.
The checks were sent in response to FTC claims that SL Finance and its owners impersonated the Department of Education, had fake COVID-19 relief programs, collected illegal fees upfront and falsely promised to reduce or forgive student loans.
Consumers who received a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days.
Lurn refunds
The FTC sent a second round of refund checks worth more than $309,000 to consumers who paid for business consulting programs from Lurn and who accepted an initial payment sent in June 2024.
The refunds were sent in response to the FTC’s claims that Lurn used “bogus” claims to sell its programs, specifically that consumers who bought its programs could make six-figure incomes.
Consumers who receive a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days, and those who receive a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.
Roca Labs refunds
The FTC refunded more than $409,000 to consumers who bought products from Roca Labs, a weight loss supplement company.
The refunds were sent in the wake of FTC claims that Roca Labs falsely marketed its weight loss supplements as effective alternatives to gastric bypass surgery and threatened customers who shared their negative experiences online or complained to the Better Business Bureau.
Consumers who receive a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days. Those who receive a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.
Fortnite refunds
In June, the FTC sent more than $126 million to Fortnite players who were charged for unwanted purchases and filed a valid claim by Feb. 14, 2025.
The FTC said it is currently reviewing claims made after Feb. 14, 2025, but is no longer accepting them.
Consumers who receive a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days. Those who receive a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.

The refunds were sent as part of a settlement made by Ygrene to end claims that some of its contractors forged signatures on the company’s finance agreement.
Consumers who receive a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days.
First American Payment Systems settlement
The FTC said in July that it was currently reviewing claims for a $4.9 million settlement made by First American Payment Systems to end claims that the company used misleading sales pitches and charged hidden fees.
The agency previously sent more than $2.6 million in February to businesses enrolled with First American Payment Systems and who were charged hidden or unauthorized fees.
The deadline to make a claim was July 14. Businesses that receive a check are asked to cash it within 90 days.
