AH Media Group refunds
The FTC sent PayPal payments to consumers who were charged by AH Media Group for “free trial” offers for cosmetics and weight loss supplements and who failed to cash a previous refund check sent by the agency.
The FTC argued AH Media marketed free trial offers for products the company claimed would promote younger-looking skin or weight loss, including products called Amabella Allure, Adelina, Parisian Glow and Tone Fire Garcinia.
AH Media also told consumers they must only pay a small shipping and handling fee to try the products, according to the FTC, which alleged AH Media would then charge consumers about $90 for the trial products.
The FTC further argued AH Media enrolled consumers in unwanted subscription plans that had additional monthly charges. The FTC said it previously sent refund payments in June 2022 and December 2024, resulting in about $5.1 million in refunds.
Consumers who receive a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.
Mission Hills Federal refunds
The FTC sent a second round of refund checks in February to eligible individuals who lost money to a student loan debt relief scheme that used many names, including Mission Hills Federal, Federal Direct Group, National Secure Processing and The Student Loan Group.
The FTC alleged the companies charged illegal upfront fees and falsely promised to lower or eliminate student loan payments. Instead of doing as promised, the FTC argued the companies did not use money they collected to pay down student loan balances and did not get student loan balances forgiven.
The companies were ultimately forced to refund monies and were banned from engaging in telemarketing and debt relief services, according to the agency.
The FTC first sent payments in March 2024, totaling more than $3.4 million in refunds, and has now sent more than 10,000 additional checks — totaling more than $627,000 — to people who cashed their first check and paid the defendants more than $340.
Anyone who receives a refund check is asked to cash it within 90 days.
Golden Sunrise settlement
The FTC sent 578 checks totaling more than $40,700 to eligible consumers who bought certain treatment plans from supplement company Golden Sunrise.
The checks came after Golden Sunrise agreed to settle the FTC’s claims that the company falsely marketed that its products could treat or cure COVID-19, cancer, Parkinson’s disease and other serious health conditions.
The Golden Sunrise products were sold between 2017 and 2020 and include the company’s Primary Plan of Care, Emergency D-Virus Plan of Care, Metabolic Plan of Care and Cancer Plan of Care products, according to the FTC.
Consumers who receive a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days. The deadline to submit a claim to benefit from the settlement has also been extended to May 12, 2026.
