Ford recall overview:
- Who: Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 148,000 vehicles for popular models like the F-150 pick-up truck, Expedition and Lincoln Navigator.
- Why: The recall addresses a brake master cylinder defect and a software issue with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
- Where: The recall is effective in the United States.
Ford has announced a recall of more than 148,000 vehicles in the United States due to potential safety risks associated with the brake master cylinder and the Powertrain Control Module.
The Ford brake master cylinder recall was issued on April 14 and affects several models, including certain 2017-2018 F-150, Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles. The defect affects up to 123,611 vehicles.
The brake master cylinder issue may allow brake fluid to leak, potentially reducing brake functionality and increasing stopping distances, which could elevate the risk of a crash.
Additionally, certain 2025 Explorer vehicles are affected by a PCM software error that may cause the module to reset while driving, potentially leading to engine stalls or damage to the park system. The PCM software error affects up to 24,655 vehicles.
Drivers should check if their vehicles are affected, Ford recall states
Ford has advised vehicle owners to check for recalls using the Ford Recall webpage or the FordPass App, where they can enter their vehicle identification number (VIN) to see if their vehicle is affected.
Recall letters will be mailed to the last known registered owners within 60 days of the recall notice.
Ford is actively working to resolve the issues by notifying affected vehicle owners and providing necessary repairs at no cost. The company says it is committed to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers.
For more information about the Ford recall, consumers can visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, which provides further details on the recall status.
Additional Ford recalls issued in 2025
In addition to the brake and software-related recalls, Ford has issued three more safety recalls affecting tens of thousands of vehicles.
In March, Ford recalled more than 105,000 vehicles — including certain 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Ford Maverick models — due to a seat belt pretensioner issue. The company says the pretensioners may not restrain occupants properly during a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Affected owners will be notified, and repairs will be made at no cost.
Ford also recalled more than 56,000 vehicles due to potential malfunctions with the rearview camera systems, which could increase the risk of accidents.
Finally, Ford announced a second recall for nearly 33,000 2022 Ford Escape and 2022-2023 Bronco Sport SUVs due to a fuel injector defect that may result in fuel leaks and potential fire risk. This latest recall builds on a previous campaign and includes an updated remedy involving a drain tube installation and software update.
Vehicle owners can visit the Ford Recall webpage or the FordPass App to check their VIN and determine if their vehicle is affected.
Ford says it has not received any reports of injury related to the Ford recalls so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

I have a 2017 Ford Escape and just spent $8,860 on a new engine. I bought it November 2023 with only 55,671 miles and not even a year later July 2024 I had to replace my engine. Ford is getting really slack with the work they are putting in to making their vehicles and then they refuse to help those who purchased them.
