Ford recalls, class action lawsuits overview:ย

  • Who: Ford Motor Co. recently issued a pair of vehicle recalls, urged vehicle owners not to drive cars with recalled Takata-brand airbags, was the target of a class action lawsuit and had a motion to dismiss mostly denied by a Delaware federal judge.ย
  • Why: Ford initiated the recalls over window and steering wheel concerns. The class action lawsuits involve Ford EcoBoost engines.ย
  • Where: The recalls affect certain vehicle owners nationwide. The class action lawsuits were filed in U.S. federal courts.ย

Ford Motor Co. recently issued a pair of recalls, warned consumers not to drive vehicles with recalled Takata-brand airbags and faced a class action lawsuit claiming it sold vehicles with defective Ford EcoBoost engines.ย

Ford recalls Ranger, Lincoln Nautilus vehicles over window pinch concerns

Ford issued a recall for more than 70,000 model year 2024 Ford Ranger and Lincoln Nautilus vehicles earlier this month over concerns their windows may not automatically reverse while closing if an object is in the window frame.ย

The automaker, which attributed the issue to software logic in the driver and passenger door modules, says it is concerned the problem could present a pinching hazard.ย

โ€œA closing window may exert excessive force by pinching a driver or passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury,โ€ the Ford recall says.

Ford says it will notify affected vehicle owners about the recall by mail starting Sept. 23 and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their software updated.ย

Ford Mustang vehicles recalled over concerns steering wheel can turn without warning

Ford issued a recall for more than 30,000 model year 2022-23 Ford Mustang vehicles in late June over concerns their steering wheels could turn without warning while the driver is trying to steer.ย

The automaker says it is worried the secondary steering torque sensor on the recalled Mustang vehicles may not be properly calibrated, causing the steering wheel to possibly turn side to side against the driverโ€™s intentions.

โ€œUnintended steering assist can lead to loss of vehicle control while driving, increasing the risk of a crash,โ€ the Ford Mustang recall says.

Ford instructed consumers affected by the recall to take their vehicles to a Ford dealer to have their power steering control module software updated free of charge.

Ford, Mazda urge vehicle owners not to drive vehicles with Takata airbags

Ford, along with Mazda Motor of America, urged vehicle owners not to drive more than 457,000 vehicles equipped with recalled Takata-brand airbags.ย

Earlier this month, the automakers told vehicle owners they must stop driving the recalled vehicles for their own safety and schedule a free repair.ย

โ€œSome of these vehicles are now more than 20 years old, which increases the risk of an air bag rupturing in a crash,โ€ the recall says. โ€œIf an explosion occurs, it can severely injure or kill vehicle occupants.โ€ย

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed more than 27 people in the United States have been killed, and more than 400 injured, by a Takata airbag that exploded.ย

Ford sold vehicles with defective EcoBoost engines, class action claims

A pair of consumers filed a class action lawsuit against Ford earlier this month over claims the automaker sold vehicles equipped with Ford EcoBoost engines at risk of overheating and potentially catching fire.ย

The class action lawsuit argues Ford failed to provide a remedy to fix the alleged โ€œcriticalโ€ defect, which the consumers claim causes engine coolant to leak into the engineโ€™s cylinders and leads to โ€œcatastrophicโ€ engine failures.ย

โ€œFord has not satisfactorily or effectively addressed the source of the defect for those consumers, including for those whose vehicles remain in warranty,โ€ the Ford EcoBoost class action says.ย

Ford canโ€™t escape claims it sold vehicles equipped with defective EcoBoost engines

In July, a Delaware federal judge ruled Ford must face a class action lawsuit claiming it manufactured and sold certain model year 2016 and newer economy, subcompact and compact vehicles equipped with defective Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost engines.ย

In a motion to dismiss the complaint, Ford argued the group of vehicle owners behind the class action lawsuit failed to take advantage of a December recall that would have provided them with free replacement parts and reimbursements.ย

However, the judge ruled the vehicle owners were asking for compensation well beyond what the cost would be to simply repair or replace the defective engines, including for towing costs, rental car costs, other out-of-pocket expenses and the diminution in value of their vehicles.

2013 ford fusion transmission problems!anyone else having fusion transmission problems?

  2. Raven Brailsford says:

I purchased my 2019 Ford Fusion in 2021 with 36,000 miles on it. It was certified preowned. I even got the extended warranty. I had 0 issues and I took my care for routine time up and oil changes as stickered in my windshield. I took it every single time to my dealer! Literally didnโ€™t have to change anything on my care because of issues. And my car engine light came on the day after 100,000 miles. They said that if was spark plugs, so they replaced them. A week later, I went to crank my car up and it screamed shook like an incubator and puff a big cloud of grey disguising smelling smoke and cut off. And Iโ€™m like what the heck! So I took it to my dealer and they just so smoothly said, โ€œ Oh it was your engine, it need to be replaced. Itโ€™s going to be about $9,000 for labor and parts.โ€ If only you all could have seen my face. How I just came a week ago and โ€œnothing is wrong but the spark plugsโ€ to โ€œyou need an engineโ€. Like huh! The man told me I was a silent recall on it because the manufacturer had built the engine faulty. The coolant was leaking into my engine and slowly killing it. But when I asked him why they didnโ€™t tell me about it before the mileage cut off. He said that the big fellas at head quarters told them donโ€™t say anything unless you come in complaining about the issues within the mileage. The kicker is the service man told me itโ€™s guaranteed to tear up. Itโ€™s just the when is it going to tear up part. He said that everyone that has come in with the engine issue has been pass the mileage that Ford has given everytime. It like they know where to stop the mile limit so they donโ€™t have to pay out.

  3. Ryan says:

Ford refused to do anything about our 2017 Escape needing an engine replacement after the coolant leaked exactly as described. Our mechanic at the time identified it as a known issue but Ford wasnโ€™t willing to do anything.
The warranty I purchased from CarMax was willing to pay only half the cost of a new engine, leaving far more than we could afford. The Ford has been sitting unused in our driveway as we pay on it for over a year now, with about another year to go until the amount owed is low enough to afford to get rid of it. Ford has been absolutely horrible through the entire process and refused to do anything, the claim that they provided replacement parts in a recall is bull and happened after our engine was shot anyway.

Problem with 2015 Ford Explorer transmission given out, anybody have this problem? Less than a 100,000 miles!

  5. SARA EDISON says:

I PURCHASED A 2018 FORD EXPLORER I DIDNโ€™T HAVE IT 6 MONTHS I HAD TO TRADE IT AND GET IN A BIG DEBT IT KEPT READING COOLANT OVER HEATING ALSO IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD NOISE LAUREL FORD SAID IT WAS FROM THE WINDSHIELD WIPER THE PART WAS GONNA BE 345.00 AND 750.00 TO PUT IT IN SO I TRADED IT

    1. Raven Brailsford says:

Same issue! My engine light randomly came on after literally having 0 issues out of my fusion. After the light came on and I fixed that, everything went down hill after that.

  6. Mike says:

Ford has always suckedโ€ฆwhy is anyone surprised by this?

  7. Shel says:

Just when my 2015 Ford Focus is about to be paid off in 4 months after 5 yrs of payments of 300 a month and almost $20,000. Now the transmission is trying to go out on me.. It now has a 112000 miles on it. Was hoping it would last me longer than this. So disappointed and not sure what to do. ๐Ÿ˜”

  8. Mollee Benson says:

I have a 2017 Ford escape se with ecoboost Iโ€™ve not heard anything yet. My problem is parking brake saying itโ€™s on and itโ€™s not. I never use the parking brake.

    1. Diamond says:

Mine does this too!!! I have a 2020 Escape!!

  9. Tim Reed says:

I have a 2023 Ford Ranger that has a vibration and shimmy at certain rpmโ€™s and turns. I have had it to two different dealerships and they blame it on the 10 speed transmission. I am a doubtful Thomas as simply donโ€™t understand how that can be. One mechanic said it was a common problem in Rangers. The problem is very irritating to say the least. I donโ€™t know how it would be fixed.

  10. Michelle Bentley says:

I have a 2019 ford edge with ecoboost and I have already replaced the engine luckily ford covered it but I had to get a rental car which was not. It took a couple of months for them to fix it. Less than a month ago I had to replace the exhaust system and transmission due to the problems with the engine failure. My extended warranty covered some but I still had to pay $4000. Plus my husband has a 2013 ford f150 that is having issued with the transmission and electrical system including the computer. We are replaced computer, alternator, battery, and transmission. We are still having issues with it.
