Ford Motor Co. recently issued a pair of recalls, warned consumers not to drive vehicles with recalled Takata-brand airbags and faced a class action lawsuit claiming it sold vehicles with defective Ford EcoBoost engines.
Ford recalls Ranger, Lincoln Nautilus vehicles over window pinch concerns
Ford issued a recall for more than 70,000 model year 2024 Ford Ranger and Lincoln Nautilus vehicles earlier this month over concerns their windows may not automatically reverse while closing if an object is in the window frame.
The automaker, which attributed the issue to software logic in the driver and passenger door modules, says it is concerned the problem could present a pinching hazard.
“A closing window may exert excessive force by pinching a driver or passenger before retracting, increasing the risk of injury,” the Ford recall says.
Ford says it will notify affected vehicle owners about the recall by mail starting Sept. 23 and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have their software updated.
Ford Mustang vehicles recalled over concerns steering wheel can turn without warning
Ford issued a recall for more than 30,000 model year 2022-23 Ford Mustang vehicles in late June over concerns their steering wheels could turn without warning while the driver is trying to steer.
The automaker says it is worried the secondary steering torque sensor on the recalled Mustang vehicles may not be properly calibrated, causing the steering wheel to possibly turn side to side against the driver’s intentions.
“Unintended steering assist can lead to loss of vehicle control while driving, increasing the risk of a crash,” the Ford Mustang recall says.
Ford instructed consumers affected by the recall to take their vehicles to a Ford dealer to have their power steering control module software updated free of charge.
Ford, Mazda urge vehicle owners not to drive vehicles with Takata airbags
Ford, along with Mazda Motor of America, urged vehicle owners not to drive more than 457,000 vehicles equipped with recalled Takata-brand airbags.
Earlier this month, the automakers told vehicle owners they must stop driving the recalled vehicles for their own safety and schedule a free repair.
“Some of these vehicles are now more than 20 years old, which increases the risk of an air bag rupturing in a crash,” the recall says. “If an explosion occurs, it can severely injure or kill vehicle occupants.”
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed more than 27 people in the United States have been killed, and more than 400 injured, by a Takata airbag that exploded.
Ford sold vehicles with defective EcoBoost engines, class action claims
A pair of consumers filed a class action lawsuit against Ford earlier this month over claims the automaker sold vehicles equipped with Ford EcoBoost engines at risk of overheating and potentially catching fire.
The class action lawsuit argues Ford failed to provide a remedy to fix the alleged “critical” defect, which the consumers claim causes engine coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders and leads to “catastrophic” engine failures.
“Ford has not satisfactorily or effectively addressed the source of the defect for those consumers, including for those whose vehicles remain in warranty,” the Ford EcoBoost class action says.
Ford can’t escape claims it sold vehicles equipped with defective EcoBoost engines
In July, a Delaware federal judge ruled Ford must face a class action lawsuit claiming it manufactured and sold certain model year 2016 and newer economy, subcompact and compact vehicles equipped with defective Ford 1.0-liter EcoBoost engines.
In a motion to dismiss the complaint, Ford argued the group of vehicle owners behind the class action lawsuit failed to take advantage of a December recall that would have provided them with free replacement parts and reimbursements.
However, the judge ruled the vehicle owners were asking for compensation well beyond what the cost would be to simply repair or replace the defective engines, including for towing costs, rental car costs, other out-of-pocket expenses and the diminution in value of their vehicles.

92 thoughts onFord recalls vehicles, faces class actions in July, August
I just bought a used 2017 Ford Escape Titanium less than 3 months ago. Only put on 850 miles to have the engine overheat. The mechanic said there is coolant intrusion in cylinder 3 and it probably needs a new head gasket. I may even need a new engine which would cost more than what I paid for the car! I am at 85,000 miles.
I’m beyond upset about this.
I have a 2017 Ford edge with coolant leaking into the cylinders.
In August of 2024, I was driving and my engine completely shuts down in the middle of traffic. Luckily, I was able to roll into a parking lot. Pop my hood noticed that all of my coolant is gone. Had it towed to ford for service and they tell me there’s coolant leaking into my cylinders and that I need a new engine.
They wanted 10,000 for a replacement and mind you, I still owed 19k at that time! I dont have 10k lying around to spend like that.
I called the warranty company and they basically said I can’t do anything because I can’t show proof of maintenance of oil changes. The issue has nothing to do with oil changes!
I bought this piece of crap in 2022.
Only able to drive the vehicle for two years before this started and they required to change the oil every 10k miles, so I did the oil changes myself to avoid the ridiculous cost. I’ve added 22k miles since I’ve purchased the vehicle. Only 2 oil changes.
I’m still making payments on a car that is not drivable. It’s been sitting at a towing lot since August of 2024, the day of diagnosis.
This has caused me a lot of grief because not only am I out of a vehicle, I still owe 18k on it! I feel trapped.
This is not fair!
There has to be something done.
I’ve been dealing with the coolant issue on my 2015 edge Evo boost. I would like to join a class action if you know of one with my car.
I Also I brought a 2017 Ford escape ego boost it has engine issues and I was told by the Ford dealership I need a transmission
I have been fighting this for over a year carless, still making monthly car and insurance payments. My 2019 Ford Ecosport has been affected by the recall notice 23S64 / NHTSA 23V905. As per the recall, my vehicle started experiencing low oil pressure on Friday, March 29, 2024 approximately at 5:30pm, ultimately resulting in engine failure. A loud noise started coming from the engine and it felt like the car wanted to turn off and the brakes were going out. I made my son get out and walk the rest of the way home to ensure his safety while I drove to my local dealership. Thank goodness I made it safely going less than 30mph.
Despite promptly bringing my car into the dealership, I am currently without a vehicle due to the unavailability of parts or a solution from Ford. This situation has left me in a distressing predicament as I rely heavily on my vehicle for essential daily tasks. Ford Autonation Margate advised me that the Warranty Dpt instructed me to bring it to the dealership I purchased it from. Unfortunately, that dealership is no longer in business.
As a full-time working mother with a teenager who is actively involved in school activities such as baseball, transportation is vital for us. Additionally, managing household responsibilities alongside my professional commitments further underscores the importance of having a reliable means of transportation.
It is extremely challenging for me to continue fulfilling my obligations without access to a vehicle. Moreover, I am still making payments on the Ford Ecosport and paying full coverage insurance, despite it being out of service due to circumstances beyond my control.
Add me as well! I have a 2018 escape that is affected and the extended warranty I purchased is useless because they won’t cover the engine now because of the known defect so I am now without my car
I have same problem with a 2017 2.0 ecoboost engine. Is there any class action suit or others with same? Coolant leaked into engine oil, am told I need new engine.
I am having the same problem with my 2017 Ford Escape with the 2.0 engine it is getting coolant in cylinder number one and giving me a check engine light and it gives the code that cylinder one is misfiring has been to the shop 5 times for this problem
Would like to speak with someone about a possible claim against ford motors.
Add me
I have a 2021 ford ecosport, I am currently sitting at the dealership and just got the news that I need a new engine….here’s the kicker….they can put a new crappy engine in there(just a bandaid) so the same thing will happen…but I will have to wait like 8-9 months to get a faulty part back with no loaner available! I have to beable to get back and forth to work
