Ford F-150 recall overview:
- Who: Ford has recalled more than half-a-million of its Ford F-150 vehicles.
- Why: The automaker says a loss of signal can cause the transmission to unexpectedly shift into first gear, causing a loss of vehicle control.
- Where: The Ford F-150 recall is active in the United States.
Ford has recalled more than half-a-million of its Ford F-150 vehicles nationwide due to a transmission issue that can cause the vehicles to suddenly shift into first gear.
The automaker notified the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the recall on June 24.
According to the notice, Ford is recalling 552,188 of its 2014 Ford F-150s due to a transmission issue. Ford says the vehicles can suffer a loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module.
This can then cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into first gear, regardless of vehicle speed, the recall says. “Unexpectedly downshifting into first gear may result in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash,” Ford says.
Warning light may turn on in trucks with transmission issue
Drivers who are experiencing the issue may notice that the Malfunction Indicator Light is on, Ford says.
In some cases, the signal can recover while driving and the vehicle will resume normal function. But in others, the vehicle may need to be stopped and restarted to regain normal transmission operation, Ford says.
The company says it will fix the issue for free. Dealers will update the powertrain control module software. Owners will be mailed notification letters starting July 1.
In May, Ford Motor Company issued another recall for 242,669 Ford Maverick pickup trucks over concerns their rear tail lights could fail to illuminate. The recall involves model year 2022-2024 Ford Maverick vehicles produced between Feb. 3, 2021 and March 21, 2024.

28 thoughts onFord announces recall for 550,000+ F-150 vehicles
I have a 2012, with only 135,000 miles…….the electronic dash goes out and the power steering goes out at the same time. Numerous trips to the garage, and in excess of 5000.00 in repairs. This could cause a serious injury in situations where you could not control the vehicle with manual steering. I am scared to drive it, because it happens randomly. So unfair to those of us who are told by mechanics “we don’t know what the issue is”
I own a f 150 ford with transmission problems took it a couple of times while under warranty they told me it was normal ,it still shifts rough and rattling sounds when cold, and clank sound on start ups ,sometimes….only have 48000 miles on it /2019 ford F 150 supercrew 4×4
have a 2020 f150 4×4 crew cab platinum, I have transmission issues. harsh shifting, rough downshifting. I have taken it to the dealership and they wanted to keep it for a minimum of 72 hours and threatened to charge me 200$ as a diagnostic fee if they could find no issue. I asked if they had a loaner vehicle and got the runaround even though I asked two weeks in advance. I finally spoke with a dealer in a nearby who will look at it the same day they take it. Ford has been aware of these transmission problems for years. I am hoping for the best, but have only marginal confidence in Ford to do the right thing. I have less than 28,000 miles and this is a beautiful truck I except for this issue.
I had transmission issues
With my Ford -f150
I had transmission issues
I have had this problem in the past , while driving the truck down shifting while moving. I now have an issue with the truck not starting with by passing the starter selonoid. I have seen that there was a recall for the “Lead Train” in the transmission. But I was also told that the recall date is over and that my mileage is too high for this recall. Truck looks good and runs great when I can use it but as I get older, I’m starting to have issues bypassing the starter. Do I have any recourse to this. Truck if an F150 XLT with 237k. Help
My 2016 F250 has similar transmission issues
My 2018 ford fl50 has the same issue with the transmission there junk
I have the same truck and I have had no issues at all with it.
Same issue on my 2013 f150
Same as my 2013 f150 as well
Our 2013 and 2005 has had the same issue as well! Also cam shaft sencer problems on both….what a nightmare. As many proble.s as we’ve had were sadly highly thinking of eliminating FORD out of our family forever. We have had our trucks in the shop more then on the road. I also won’t mention or 2010 fusion electric power steady replacement. Even Ford garage is clueless to fix these problems. Ford needs be held accountable for outrageous shop and part bills people are forced to pay to repair they’re investments and means of livelihood!
I bought my daughter a 2018 F150 with only 11 miles on it. That truck has been to the dealership with transmission problems 5 times. They keep the truck for months at a time and return it to her saying the shifting issues are normal. I don’t think so! Especially when it jumps gears up and down. That transmission has aind if it’s own. Ford refuses to remedy the problem so she now has a lawsuit for them to buy the truck back at full value we paid of $54,000. The truck has only 21,000 miles on it and has never been used as intended such as pulling jet skis or a camper trailer. It’s just a very expensive paper weight that sits in the driveway. The Ford service department at all of the Las Vegas dealerships is rude, incompetent and deserve to be fired.
SHAME ON FORD CORPORATION AND LAS VEGAS FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENTS. !!!!
I have had this issue with my 2011 F150 as well.
Me Too With The F150 2011 6R80 Transmission
My 2012 f-150 is showing the same issues as the 2014 f-150s are.
Why are they offering a recall on 2012 and 2013
